Challenge Rifts can be entered by first interacting with the Challenge Rift Entrance located at the Palace Courtyard in Westmarch. Players will be able to find it right next to the entrance for Elder Rifts.

Select Challenge Rift Difficulty Level

Challenge Rift - Select the Difficulty

After interacting with the entrance, choose the difficulty level of the Challenge Rift you wish to enter. As the level of the Rift increases, so do the rewards for each first-time clear.

Note: If you happen to choose a Challenge Rift level that is far past your current Combat Rating, the game will notify you with a message saying that the monster difficulty is too high.

Difficulty Does Not Scale with Character Level

Challenge Rift - How to Check Combat Rating

Difficulty in Challenge Rifts is not tied to your Character Level. Instead, the difficulty increases according to Combat Rating, meaning you will need to improve your gear and socketed gems to take on higher level Challenge Rifts.

Tip: To view the Combat Rating of your enemies vs. your current build, click the High Monster Difficulty icon at the bottom of your screen (inside the Challenge Rift). This opens a menu that summarizes the difference between your Combat Rating and the enemy's.

Choose to Enter Solo or as a Party

Challenge Rift - Find a Party

After choosing your difficulty, decide whether you want to tackle the Challenge Rift solo or with a party. Choosing Find Party will allow you to matchmake with nearby players who want to group up to clear out Challenge Rifts.

Separate Leaderboards for Solo and Multiplayer

Challenge Rift Leaderboards

Note that Challenge Rifts have separate Solo and Party Leaderboards. Solo Leaderboards consist of players of the same class, while Party Leaderboards have separate rankings for 2-Player, 3-Player, and 4-Player parties.

Optimize Your Class Build

Challenge Rift - Optimize Build

The increasing difficulty of Challenge Rifts can only be matched by optimizing your character's build. Aim to raise your Combat Rating as much as possible while also gearing up to use your character's most powerful skill combos.

Remember, an optimized build goes a long way, not only allowing you to clear Rifts faster, but also making it possible to tackle Challenge Rifts that are far beyond your current character's level.

Kill Enemies to the Fill Progress Bar

Challenge Rift - Defeat Enemies to Add to Progress Bar

Just like in Elder Rifts, you will need to kill Rift enemies to fill up the Progress Bar found in the left side of your screen. Kill them in quick succession to beat the timer and summon the Rift Guardian for a final boss fight.

Tip: While it is common practice to focus on killing Elites when running Rifts, some Challenge Rifts will have more normal mobs than elites while you run through them. If this is the case for your run, start killing these normal mobs en masse as it will save you more time than hunting elite mobs.

Slay Elite Monsters to Progress Faster

Challenge Rift - Defeat Elite Mobs

Prioritize slaying Elite Monsters as they drop Rift Progress Orbs that fill up the Progress Bar by a large amount. These enemies are easy to spot as they will have a distinct blue or yellow aura when you encounter them.

Warning: Elite mobs are much tougher than regular mobs, with some even being immune to control effects like stuns, slows, or fear. Make sure to pay attention to their abilities as this can save you from overextending at higher Challenge Rift difficulty levels.

Defeat the Rift Guardian

Challenge Rift - Defeat the Rift Guardian

Once the progress bar is filled, the Rift Guardian will appear somewhere nearby. Quickly make your way towards them and defeat them before time runs out. Defeating the Rift Guardian is the end-goal of Challenge Rifts and is necessary to receive the rewards at the end.

Shade of DestructionShade of Destruction

Note: Most Rift Guardians are easy to defeat if you meet the required Combat Rating of the Challenge Rift. However, when tackling Rifts above your difficulty level, the trickiest to defeat will perhaps be The Flayed due to its large (and constant) AoE poison attacks.

Re-Roll Challenge Rifts for Easier Enemies

Challenge Rift - Reroll Challenge Rift Enemies

One lesser known fact about Challenge Rifts is that their level designs are not fixed. This means players can exit and re-do a Challenge Rift to change the Rift's layout and enemy types.

When looking to rank in the leaderboards or complete a Rift above your CR rating, re-roll its enemy types until you find one that favors your class.

The easiest enemies to take on and kill en masse are usually the Skeleton enemies. Unlike other enemy types, Skeletons usually spawn in dense, melee-heavy mobs, often only having a handful of ranged units that have bad projectile tracking.

Equip Helliquary Trophies for Challenge Rift Bonuses

Diablo Immortal - Main Helliquary Slot

One way to stack the odds in your favor would be to unlock and equip trophies to your Helliquary. These special items are unique to Challenge Rifts as their special bonuses only activate when you are inside one. Defeat Helliquary Bosses and claim their trophies to increase your chances of completing the Rift.

Chaos Herald Pyl Appears in Solo Challenge Rift 8

Challenge Rift - Chaos Herald Pyl

The very first Helliquary Trophy can be obtained by starting the quest, Demonic Remains. Defeat Chaos Herald Pyl inside the Solo Challenge Rift 8 (during the questline) to get Pyl's Flowing Chaos - a trophy that grants +10% Crit. Chance when inside Challenge Rifts.

Note: If you have already beaten Solo Challenge Rift 8 prior to this quest, you will still need to go and redo it in order to challenge Chaos Herald Pyl and obtain trophy.

What are Challenge Rifts?

PvE Instances for Solo or Multiplayer

Diablo Immortal - Challenge Rifts

Challenge Rifts are instanced PvE combat zones that can be completed solo or with a party.

In these instances, players must reveal and defeat the Rift Guardian as quickly as possible to earn rewards like Gold, Hilts, Enigmatic Crystals, and Legendary gear.

Completing Challenge Rifts quickly enough will allow you to take a spot on the Solo or Party Leaderboards, granting you even more rewards every week.

Monsters Do Not Reward Experience

It is important to note that Challenge Rift monsters do not reward any experience, so players should not expect to level up during these challenges.

F2P Friendly Way to Obtain Enigmatic Crystals

Challenge Rift - Enigmatic Crystal Farm

Aside from the leaderboard ranking experience, Challenge Rifts are one of the only easy ways a free-to-play (F2P) player can earn Enigmatic Crystals. Use them to upgrade your Set Items and increase your Combat Rating when tackling higher Hell Difficulties.
