Diablo I

Diablo I Timeline

Diablo I sets up a majority of the events that take place in all of the Diablo games, although other significant events have occurred prior to the game's starting year of 1258. The first Diablo game focuses heavily around the small town of Tristram – suffering from an onslaught of beasts and monsters that ravage the town's population.

The King who rules over the lands – Leoric of Khanduras – had slowly become insane following the release of the titular Demon Diablo at the hands of the Archbishop Lazarus, who used Leoric's son Albrecht's body as a vessel for the demon. Another of Leoric's sons – Prince Aidan – venturing into the cathedral in Tristram in a bid to defeat Diablo and Lazarus, forcing the Soulstone that carries Diablo's essence onto his own forehead to keep the demon contained.

Diablo II

Diablo II Timeline

Barely a year passes since Prince Aidan's defeat of both Diablo and Archbishop Lazarus. Diablo II focuses on the aftermath of Aidan's quest, who leaves Tristram and travels East with the soulstone still stuck on his forehead. The young prince succumbs to Diablo's influence, unleashing chaos and death on the lands he crosses and lets free Diablo's other malevolent companions – the Prime Evils.

A group of warriors undertake a quest to follow and defeat both the Prime Evils and Diablo himself, following Aidan – now known as the Dark Wanderer – on his journey. Along the way, they defeat Andariel, Duriel, Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal.

Diablo Immortal

Diablo Immortal Timeline

Diablo Immortal takes place some time between Diablo II and Diablo III, occuring in the year 1270.

The game follows after the events of Diablo II, taking place in the relative peace after Diablo's defeat in 1264.

Not much is known yet about the events of Diablo Immortal, although it will explore many of the events that occurred in the Eternal Conflict or the war between Heaven and Hell.

The game may also explore the aftermath of Baal's corruption of the Worldstone, which was destroyed towards the end of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, an expansion to the original Diablo II.

Diablo III

Diablo III Timeline.png

Around fifteen years after the events of Diablo Immortal, the relative peace is now broken as Tyrael falls from the High Heavens as the Falling Star, becoming the catalyst for the events of Diablo III.

A Nephalem adventurer, along with Deckard Cain and Leah, arrives at the crash site of the Falling Star to investigate.

They learn from Tyrael about the arrival of the two demon lords Belial and Azmodan, and begin a long journey to find the Black Soulstone and seal the souls of the two demon lords.

Upon successfully defeating Belial and Azmodan, their ally Adria would betray all of them by sacrificing Leah using the Black Soulstone to resurrect Diablo.

The story ends with Diablo defeated by the Nephalem in the base game and with the Black Soulstone destroyed in the Reaper of Souls expansion.
