Leave the Combat Area

To run away from a battle, all you need to do is to distance yourself away from your enemy. Once you're far enough, the enemy should stop chasing you. This is easier to do if you have a defender in your party, as they can keep enemies busy while you run away.

Hold A to Sheathe Weapon

During combat, you can hold the A button on your controller to sheathe your weapon. This will allow you to run faster than your enemies and disengage in combat should you need to escape.

Avoid Running Into Other Enemies

Make sure to always keep an eye out for other groups of enemies when running away to avoid the risk of getting into another fight.

You Cannot Escape From Main Quest Battles

When you're fighting against enemies that are part of the main quest, you will not be able to escape or even sheathe your weapon. You are forced to fight against them, and the only way out is through victory.
