Use Overkill Chain Attacks to Finish Off Unique and Elite Monsters

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Overkill Gold Boost

The best way to maximize the Gold that you earn from killing Unique and Elite Monsters is by finishing them off using a Chain Attack Overkill. To do this, you will have to land a killing blow during the Chain Attack, allowing you to build up bonus multipliers with the damage you do after the Overkill procs.

Note: Before you can get an Overkill, you will need to have it turned on in the System Menu. Hit X to bring up the Game Menu, then navigate to System > Game > Overkill and set it to ON.

Defeat Unique and Elite Monsters

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Defeat Elite and Unique Enemies

Unique and Elite monsters will have a Gold Bonus Multiplier every time you defeat them. Make sure to prioritize killing Elite Monsters out on the field if you see them, and farming Unique Monsters repeatedly if you can kill them quickly enough.

Defeat Monsters with the Same Level as Your Party

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Fight Enemies the Same Level as Your Party

Gold drops are tied to a monster's level, meaning the higher the level of the monster, the more Gold it drops when killed. In order to farm Gold in large amounts and in a consistent fashion, make sure you are killing enemies at the same level as your party as they reward more gold than farming low level areas you've completed.

Gold Drops Do not Vary Based on Level Differences

Party Level Kroda Wisp
(Level 41)
Besieger Sheritt
(Level 48)
Level 46 Party 115 Gold 5250 Gold
Level 85 Party 115 Gold 5250 Gold

Unlike EXP or even CP, Gold drops are consistent, with monsters always dropping a fixed amount of Gold based on their level. Whether you kill a level 20 monster with a high or low level party, the gold drops will always be the same.

Find and Open Containers

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Open Containers

On top of dropping Nopon Coins, Collectibles, and Accessories, containers are also a great source of Gold. Make sure to open them as you find them out in the open world in order to amass Gold while exploring.

Note: Before opening containers, make sure you are not maxed out on important resources like Nopon Coins. Going beyond the max stack of 99 will auto-sell the items with no way of earning them back.

Keep Leveling Up Your Party

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Level Up Your Characters

Since Gold drop amounts depend on the monster's level, defeating higher level monsters will be your go-to strategy for farming Gold. In order to do this, you will need to constantly be leveling up, moving from place to place in search for monsters with the same level as your party.

Use Auto-Battle Against Elite Monsters

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Use Auto-Battle

If you manage to find decently leveled Elite monsters with consistent spawns, you can use XC3's Auto-Battle feature to fight them. The only reason this works is because the Auto-Battle AI seems to have very consistent rolls when it comes to their Auto Chain Attacks.

If you want to maximize the amount of bonuses you can get from Overkill, you can opt to use Auto-Battle when fighting solo Elite monsters you find in the world. To do this, enter battle then press the button to engage the Auto Battle AI.
