Tips to Defeat Startle Spore |
---|
|
The Startle Spore is found buried under the ground disguising itself as mushrooms. Watch out when approaching these mushrooms since it will attack once you are nearby.
If you plan to go near the enemy to make it come out of the ground, be sure to move away quickly and keep your distance before it attacks.
You can also lure the creature out by throwing items. We recommend using Pikpik Carrots and Bomb Rocks if they're available. The Pikpik Carrots can distract the enemy and give you a chance to attack it. Meanwhile, the Bomb Rock can take out the enemy in one blast!
When the creature is out, you can attack from behind using Oatchi's Rush and throw your Pikmin at its back to deal more damage. Avoid attacking the front since the enemy can easily reach your Pikmin and eat them!
The Startle Spore can spread poison on the ground so it is best to keep your distance from its attacks. To make this fight easier, have Oatchi equip the Sniff Saver and bring White Pikmin to resist the poisonous attacks.

Dalmo's Log | These don't just mimic a growth of mushrooms for the fun of catching you by surpriseーthey also use the opportunity to spread poison around quire indiscriminately. But that's just this little darling's idiosyncratic method for catching its prey. We could learn from the way nature embraces such unique and varied creatures. | ||
Olimar's Log |
The defining characteristics of the fungi that grow from its head differ from that of the Chrysanthemum family's Creeping Chrysanthemum, but the makeup of the body out of which they grow is mostly the same. As a result, we can theorize that like fellow Ambuloradicis the Bulbmin, this species is not an evolutionary variation, but that the body is a parasite that has nestled inside a group of mushrooms. Because the hosts are mushrooms, the Startle Spore cannot photosynthesize. Instead it gains nutrients by catching its prey with highly poisonous fluids, or by absorbing the nectar in the ground left behind as creatures killed by its poison decompose. |

Louie's Log | If you can successfully remove the tongue's poison glands, you'll enjoy a rare opportunity to appreciate the umami synergy of the mushroom and meat combo. |
