Recommended Pikmin | Red Pikmin | Ice Pikmin |
---|
We recommend using Red Pikmin for damage and Ice Pikmin to freeze Smoky Progg for an extended time to attack.
If you don't have these Pikmin while completing Cavern for a King, you can return to the surface and re-enter the cave and select them.
Steps to Beat Smoky Progg |
---|
|
Throw as much Ice Pikmin as you can to freeze Smoky Progg. This will let you safely use Rush to launch all of your remaining Pikmin at it.
Have at least 30 Ice Pikmin then fill the rest with Red Pikmin. This will shorten the time it takes for Smoky Progg to freeze and ensure big damage during the time it's frozen.
Unless frozen, do not use Rush carelessly on Smoky Progg. The red aura surrounding it will instantly eliminate some, if not all, of your Pikmin. Only throw them to deal damage
One way to 'cheese' this boss is, after you encounter it the first time, press the - button and return to the surface. Then, re-enter the cave with your Red and Ice Pikmin. You should see Smoky Progg's egg without the animation.
Don't wait for it to break; immediately use Rush and launch all of your Pikmin at it. If you have upgraded Oatchi's Rush to Mega Rush and have enough Pikmin, this tactic can potentially beat Smoky Progg with just one Rush.
Smoky Progg's attack involves shooting up a red projectile in the air. When it lands, it will create a ring that will gradually expand from its area of impact. Getting hit with this will greatly damage you and Oatchi and will instantly eliminate Pikmin.
To dodge this, stay at a safe distance from its area of impact or jump over the ring as it gets closer to you.
After throwing Pikmin to deal damage, Smoky Progg will shake them off. After this, it will roar and Pikmin within the vicinity will scatter, opening them up to get disintegrated.
Immediately use your whistle to recall you Pikmin and wait until Smoky Progg finishes its roar before attacking again.

Dalmo's Log | In the night aboveground or the dark passages below, you'll suddenly notice an egg. If you leave the egg alone, a being of terror is born out of it. A mysterious fiend dragging itself along. But I feel like this misunderstood dear may be trying to communicate with us. Perhaps its tale is a sad one. | ||
Olimar's Log |
The Smoky Progg's body is constantly deteriorating, so collecting a living sample has proven difficult and research into the species has progressed at a glacial rate. However, by examining the genes adhered to the Smoky Progg's eggs, it has been confirmed that they are, in fact, Mamuta eggs! This discovery allows for the possibility that Mamuta that do not develop properly and hatch become Smoky Proggs. If, hypothetically, a Mamuta were to remain aboveground at night and absorb glow sap, that might impact the nutrient levels within its egg's yolk. That change could lead to the embryo's inviability or break down its enzymes, then...maybe... |

Louie's Log | Egg tastes best when smoked. The flavor of the belly and the head is pleasantly warming. |
