This trial has alternative paths and extra Pikmin you can collect. However, trying to accomplish everything is one way to ensure you won't get the Platinum Medal.

The goal is to retrieve the Purple Onion, so focus on creating a path for it and only collect Pikmin that you need.

You will need 10 Purple Pikmin to create a path for Oatchi and the Purple Onion. See the image above to find the most efficient and necessary Purple Pikmin to collect.

Use Oatchi to Knock the Purple Onion Down

With a limited amount of time and number of Pikmin for the trial, you will need to be efficient.

Have Oatchi Rush the wall to knock the Purple Onion down the floor and have him carry it throughout the area. This allows you to move ahead and clear a path with the Pikmin.

Oatchi's Lv. 3 Super Buff Skill is Required

Because the onion has a weight of 100, Oatchi will need his Lv. 3 Super Buff skill. This will allow him to carry objects with a weight of 100. You can also supplement this ability with the Swallow skill to allow him to move faster while carrying the onion.

Super Buff Effect and How to Unlock

Stun Waterwraith with Purple Pikmin

You can use a Purple Pikmin to stun the Waterwraith for a couple of seconds while accomplishing tasks in the area to avoid Pikmin deaths.

However, if you're finding it hard to navigate with the Waterwraith roaming around, you have enough time to defeat it once using the Purple Pikmin and Ice Pikmin to prevent it from becoming too much of a nuisance.

If the Waterwraith does not chase you down, you can ignore it and focus on transporting the Purple Onion on the narrow path north of the area.

How to Beat Waterwraith

Have Oatchi Help Speed Up Tasks

With the limited number of Pikmin, they may take time to defeat enemies or remove obstacles. Make sure to retrieve Oatchi in such cases and have him help speed up the clearing of the path. But do not forget to have him retrieve the Purple Onion after.

Equip Charging Horn and Plucking Whistle

It is recommended to equip the Charging Horn and Plucking Whistle to save you time when defeating enemies and plucking the Pikmin from the ground respectively. The latter allows you to instantly pluck the Pikmin without the need to dismount Oatchi.

Completing the Final Story: The Purple Key rewards you with the Purple Onion. This onion allows you to produce Purple Pikmin from pellets and enemies.
