You can unlock the Sniff Saver if your Pikmin or Oatchi take any poison damage. You can purchase it from Russ at the Lab for 100 Raw Materials.

Unlock with 12000 Sparklium

Pikmin 4 - Unlock Gear with Sparklium

Alternatively, you can purchase the Sniff Saver once you reach a total of 12000 Sparklium if you've managed to avoid taking the specific elemental damage.

Equip from the Pup Gear Menu

Pikmin 4 - Pup Gear

The Sniff Saver is automatically equipped to Oatchi once you purchase it. You can unequip it at any time by pressing + for the Tablet Menu, going to Gear and Skills, and then selecting Pup Gear.
