The Pikmin 4 demo will let you play through the game until you end the day and collect 1,500 Sparklium needed for the Secure Energy Source mission, after which the demo will end. To keep playing, avoid collecting treasure until you're ready to finish the demo.
Note that you can have more than 1,500 Sparklium in the demo, but you won't be able to play the next in-game day. This means you can still get all the treasure as long as you do it in one in-game day.
A second player can join in at any time during the demo. They can assist the main player with the Pebble Pitcher to take down enemies, speed up Pikmin, or destroy obstacles. Unfortunately, 2-player Dandori Battles are not available in the demo.
Multiplayer Guide: All Co-Op Features
You're free to explore as much of the Sun-Speckled Terrace as you can until you hit the Sparklium requirement. You don't have to collect treasures, but you can have them marked on your map for later. Feel free to collect raw materials since these don't count toward completion.
Sun-Speckled Terrace Treasures and How to Unlock
The entirety of the Sun-Speckled Terrace's surface can be explored and mapped out in the demo. Make sure to check every possible route and unlock shortcuts to open new areas and bases.
You'll start with up to 20 Pikmin, but you'll be able to increase this limit up to 40 by finding Onions and Flarlic. You can even find other Pikmin types, including the new Ice Pikmin and Yellow Pikmin. Once you find the Blue Onion, you can create Blue Pikmin too!
All Pikmin Types: How to Get More Pikmin
The demo allows you to dive into several caves where you'll find Castaways. Rescue these Castaways to unlock more functions in your base, such as the Lab, the treasure catalog, and the Piklopedia. There are 7 of them to rescue in this map, including Leaflings.
List of All Cave Locations and Maps
The demo also features Dandori Battles and Challenges, where you'll need to score as high as you can within a given time to win. You'll be able to rescue Leaflings as a reward too. Don't worry about collecting treasure here since they don't give Sparklium!
Dandori Challenges
Walkthrough and Locations
Every rescue you make gives Pup Drive for training Oatchi! Make sure to upgrade his skills in the demo so he'll be more useful to you in the main game.
Oatchi Guide - Everything You Need to Know
Your save data from the demo can be imported to the full game. This way, you can pick up where you left off. Try to complete as much as you can for a headstart. You'll even receive a bonus gift of 5 Bomb Rocks!
How to Transfer Save Demo Data
The demo ends once you hit 1,500 Sparklium and end the day. This can be achieved in just a couple of hours if you're just aiming to complete the goal. However, you're free to explore the rest of the world and complete the area until you reach the requirement, which should take around 3 to 4 hours.
