Proceed Through the Area Counterclockwise
The optimal route to take is going around the arena in a counterclockwise pattern, collecting materials and lighting up bonfire altars as you go.
Always Bring a Fire Starter
A Fire Starter can be picked up immediately in the starting room. Toss a Red Pikmin to get a fire starter for burning straws and destroying ice gates to clear paths, frozen hydro jellies, and enemies with an icy back.
Use Fire Starters to Destroy Ice Gates
Since there are no Ice Pikmin to help you destroy ice gates, throw a fire starter to immediately destroy it.
Light Bonfire Altars to Replenish Fire Starters
Each room has a bonfire altar which you should light up to replenish your fire starter. Always prioritize lighting up bonfire altars with your fire starter before using it on something else, as the fire starter will go out, and you'll have to go back to the previous room to get another one.
Use Idler's Alert When the Materials are Transported
As soon as the Pikmin finishes transporting materials, call them with the Idler's Alert to your location so you won't have to go back to your base to call them.

Defeat the Small Ice Enemies with Rush
The small enemies with icy backs can be defeated with an upgraded rush. If you haven't upgraded it yet, you can use fire starters to melt their ice armor, and then you can attack them.
Defeat the Icy Blowhog
There is a flying enemy called the Icy Blowhog that puts out bonfire altars and fire starters. Prioritize defeating this enemy to protect your lit bonfire altars.
Defeat the Enemies that Spit Snowballs
This will make the routes your Pikmin will take safer when transporting materials back.
2nd Story: Snow Problem Location
Found at the Rescue Command Post
All trials of the Sage Leaf can be found when you enter the cave in the north part of the Rescue Command Post.
This cave is unlocked after finishing Olimar's Shipwreck Tale.
