List of Contents
Skill | Rating | Explanation |
---|---|---|
Buff Super Buff |
★★★★★ | Raising Buff to Lv.3 gives him the strength of 10 Pikmin. This makes it possible to get the Blue Onion early. Maxing out Super Buff lets him carry up to 100 weight and unlocks Swallow in the postgame. |
Doggy-Paddle | ★★★★☆ | It's best to have Oatchi learn how to swim as soon as possible. Upgrading this skill also lets Oatchi transport and attack while in the water, making him as effective as Blue Pikmin. |
Command | ★★★★☆ | Higher levels of Command improve multitasking by allowing you to send Oatchi anywhere on the map and to round up any stray Pikmin. |
Rush Mega Rush |
★★★★☆ | Leveling Rush decreases the charge time and can stun enemies once you unlock Mega Rush. Learning all of Oatchi's skills unlocks the legendary skill, Infinite Rush. |
Pluck | ★★★☆☆ | Pluck makes Oatchi more like a second captain, allowing him to get Pikmin off the ground too. |
Dig | ★★★☆☆ | Later in the game, Oatchi can dig faster than Yellow Pikmin if this skill is improved. |
Chomp Big Chomp |
★★☆☆☆ | Big Chomp improves on its base skill by allowing Oatchi to deal more damage and attack creatures in the air. |
Heal | ★☆☆☆☆ | Heal allows Oatchi to recover HP passively, but the Scrummy Bone is still more effective. |

Buff |

Teaching this skill to your Rescue Pup further increases the strength boost he gets from Buff. You can level up this skill with more training. Raise Buff to Lv. 3 |
Swallow |
A skill that teaches your Rescue Pup to hold treasure and defeated creatures in his mouth in order to transport them. He alone can carry an object that would take 100 Pikmin to transport. Complete the Main Story and Talk to Olimar |
Chomp |
This is a bite attack that Rescue Pups can use against creatures. Level up this skill with training to increase damage. Learned by Default |
Big Chomp |
This skill teaches Rescue Pups an even stronger Chomp attack and allows them to jump up to attack creatures in higher places. Raise Chomp to Lv. 3 |
Rush |
With this skill, Rescue Pups charge up their power and rush forward, dealing damage to creatures in their path. They can also use it to knock treasure down from high places and break dirt walls. Learned by Default |
Mega Rush |
Teaching this skill to your Rescue Pup shortens the amount of time it takes to charge up power and increases the strength of the rush, leaving creatures stunned for longer periods of time. Raise Rush to Lv. 3 |
Doggy-Paddle |
This skill allows Oatchi to swim. Any Pikmin on Oatchi will also stay dry while crossing the water. If you level up the skill in training, he'll be able to swim faster and do more things in the water. Learned 2 Days After Oatchi Nearly Drowns |
Jump |
This skill lets you hop onto Oatchi's back and move around that way. Press X while on his back to instruct him to jump over smaller steps. Unlocked During the Story |
Pluck |
This will teach your Rescue Pup to pluck Pikmin right out of the ground. Level up this skill to increase plucking speed. Unlocked During the Story |
Dig |
A useful skill that allows your Rescue Pup to help out when you need to dig in the dirt and sand or speed up the Pikmin's excavations. Keep training to increase his digging speed. Learned by Default |
Heal |
If Oatchi receives damage while exploring, this skill helps him heal faster. Level up this skill to keep increasing his healing speed. Unlocked with Training |
Command |
This skill teaches Oatchi to track down different things, as well as help with other tasks. Learn more about what Commands are available in training. Learned by Default |
Infinite Rush |
A reward for getting all of Oatchi's skills. Infinite Rush lets Oatchi use Rush forever. Go zoomies as you explore all of the areas! Get All Oatchi's Skills |
Oatchi already knows some skills at the start of the game and can learn more later in the story. Oatchi can even learn new skills by trying things out while exploring. For example, to learn Doggy-Paddle, Oatchi must first attempt to swim.
Most skills can be leveled up by using Pup Drive in training to improve their effects. Higher skill levels let Oatchi do more tasks, such as carrying heavier objects and defeating enemies more easily.
Oatchi can be trained by Shepherd at the Rescue Command Post. After learning more skills, you'll receive Scrummy Bones which are used for healing Oatchi.
Skills like Super Buff, Big Chomp, and Mega Rush are stronger versions of Oatchi's skills. To get these skills, you'll need to raise the base skill to Level 3 before he gets the upgraded version.
You can start training Oatchi's skills with Shepherd once you rescue Russ from your first cave. You'll know Oatchi can learn and upgrade skills once he grows bigger and can ride him.
