Freeze the Water With Ice

Pikmin 4 - Freeze Water with Ice Pikmin

You can use Ice Pikmin or the Ice Blast to freeze water, allowing all your other Pikmin to cross safely. If you're using Ice Pikmin, you'll need to throw enough of them to freeze the surface. Ice Pikmin can safely float on the water but can't dive to carry things.

Blue Pikmin can dive underwater, allowing them to transport objects and attack enemies in the water. These Pikmin will likely be your go-to when crossing large bodies of water.

Ride Oatchi Over Water

Oatchi can learn how to Doggy-Paddle to swim. The skill can be upgraded to make him swim faster and allow him to dive underwater like Blue Pikmin.

Oatchi can also carry any Pikmin that would otherwise drown in the water, making him useful for crossing the water.

Winged Pikmin can fly above the water, preventing them from getting wet. However, they can't be thrown while your character is underwater.

Pikmin 4 - Whistle to Save Drowning Pikmin

Most Pikmin will begin drowning when in water. In case these Pikmin end up in the water, you can calm them down by whistling at them. They can only stay in water for a limited time, so they'll need to either reach Oatchi or land on time if you want them to survive.
