Use the Fire Starer on the Altars in the Arena

Pikmin 4 - Step 1 - Use Fire Starters on the Bonfire Altars

Before engaging Snowfake Fluttertail, make sure to light up both of the Bonfire Altars on each side of the arena by using the fire starter near the S.S. Beagle. Use Red Pikmin's immunity to fire to do this.

The right altar is open to ignite while the left altar has a Hydro Jelly you need to burst first.

Throw the Fire Starters to Eliminate the Cocoon

You can only damage Snowfake Fluttertail after you remove its cocoon. To do that, you need to send a Red Pikmin to carry the fire starter, select it with the L or R button, then aim at Snowfake Fluttertail and throw.

Throw Red Pikmin to Beat It

Once the cocoon is removed, it's your chance to send in your Red Pikmin to deal damage! After a while, it will shake off the Pikmin attached, so just repeat from step 2 until it's defeated.

Watch Out for Its Icy Breath

When it rears its head back, Snowfake Fluttertail will do its icy breath move. Keep riding Oatchi and just run sideways from it.

If you get caught and you don't have Thermal Defense equipped, just tap the B button to escape from being frozen. Then, use your whistle to thaw your Pikmin and Oatchi (only if he doesn't have his own Thermal Defense equipped, too).

Dodge Its Snout Attack

Getting close to Snowfake Fluttertail will make it do its snout attack. Just move sideways while riding Oatchi to easily dodge this.

DalmoDalmo's Log Please don't call it a flying snowman! The sight of it flying around with its magnificent wings, scattering ice like diamonds, evokes thoughts of a snow sprite. Witness this beauty of nature, and let it soothe away all of your woes and anxiety.
OlimarOlimar's Log The cooling cycle in its body uses ammonia as a refrigerant to chill the moisture it absorbs from the air until it reaches a supercooled state. By then spraying it out of the several vents on its belly, the Snowfake Fluttertail creates a delicate cocoon out of ice to both protect itself and freeze its prey.
Its rolled-up, spirally proboscis evolved from an upper jaw and can catch and tie up prey with the fine hairs on its surface.
Though it mimics a type of swallowtail butterfly, this creature is actually more closely related to moths. One might extrapolate that its ancient ancestor was unable to adapt to the cooling climate and therefore went extinct.
LouieLouie's Log Dice finely or puree to make a meaty sorbet. Add a tiny drizzle of fruit sauce for some punch! Pluck the wings and antennae beforehand to use as a garnish if you want to get fancy.
