Pikmin 4 - What Happens When You Get a Game Over

Getting a Game Over in Pikmin 4 will allow you to rewind time or move to the next day. Our article will show what happens when you get a Game Over, what happens when characters get knocked out, and if there are any death penalties.

Pikmin 4 - Game Over Rewind Screen

A Game Over can happen when both your character and Oatchi are knocked out. Once this happens, you'll be asked if you want to rewind time. If you decline, you'll either escape from the cave or be forced to move to the next day if you're on the surface.

Pikmin 4 - All Pikmin Lost Rewind Screen

Although not a true Game Over, if you lose all of a type of Pikmin or all the Pikmin in your squad, you'll be asked to rewind time too. Declining will let you keep exploring, but clearing caves will become much more difficult, if not impossible.

Getting Knocked Out Switches to Oatchi

Pikmin 4 - Oatchi Rouses Knocked Out Player

If your character gets knocked out first, they'll teleport to the current base, and you'll switch over to Oatchi. The reverse is also true, with Oatchi returning to base to recover if he falls first.

This will not trigger a game over, but you should watch the health of both of them to avoid ending up in a worse situation.

When both your character and Oatchi get knocked out, and you refuse to rewind, all Pikmin in the squad will be lost. This can happen both on the surface and in caves. However, you'll keep any collected treasures, onions, and castaways.
