You'll encounter all sorts of obstacles and creatures as you explore with your Pikmin. Know the strengths and weaknesses of your Pikmin so you can use them to their fullest.
For example, stick to Red Pikmin when fighting enemies that use fire. Use rush with lots of Ice Pikmin to quickly freeze enemies. It's possible to work with the three Pikmin type limit as the game recommends the best Pikmin for the job.
All 9 Pikmin Types, Locations, and Abilities
The planet is full of creatures that can easily hurt and eat the Pikmin. Thankfully, Pikmin can fight too, so use them to clear the path of enemies to make transport safer.
Know when it's best to use rush or charge so you can defeat the creatures quickly. Also, avoid panic throwing, as your Pikmin will likely end up dead if you fling them around aimlessly.
Pikmin are fragile creatures and are prone to panicking when in danger. Whistle to calm them down and bring them back to your squad safely.
Normally, your Pikmin would be more spread out, leaving several of them exposed to danger. By riding on Oatchi, all the Pikmin can safely cling to your Rescue Pup. Keeping your Pikmin close is helpful not only for traveling but against certain bosses too.
It also helps that rush becomes more effective when Oatchi is carrying them, as it lets your Pikmin attack all at once.
Sometimes, you might end up unlucky and lose a lot of PIkmin despite all your preparation. That's when you can Rewind Time to try again as if they never died.
Do note that you can't rewind between cave sublevels and the surface, so keep that in mind if you want zero deaths.
If you end up losing all of a Pikmin type, the game will ask you to rewind time to save them. The same prompt appears if all the Pikmin in your squad dies.
What Happens When You Get Game Over?
If you choose not to rewind after losing your Pikmin, it's still possible to regrow your squad. If you have the onion of the Pikmin type that completely died out, a seed will pop out so you can make more of them again.
Unfortunately for those without an onion yet, you'll need to go back to the caves to gather wild Pikmin.
