Pals and items can be obtained through fishing in Palworld after the Tides of Terraria update. Read on for a guide on how to fish, where to fish, how to salvage items, and the Pals you can obtain through fishing.

Craft a Fishing Rod
The Beginner Fishing Rod can be crafted at a High Quality Workbench or a more advanced workbench. The Intermediate Fishing Rod requires at least a Production Assembly Line. The Advanced Fishing Rod requires Production Assembly Line II.
Despite being labeled as weapons, they cannot be crafted at Weapon Workbenches. However, they do occupy weapon slots in your inventory when equipped.

To fish, you must first craft bait. Various types of bait can be unlocked through the Technology menu and crafted using workbenches.
While casting your line during fishing, you can select between all available bait in your inventory.
Look for Fish Shadows
You can only obtain Pals when fishing in waterways with fish shadows. Each fishing spot has a difficulty level attached to it. This will likely determine the Pals who can be caught in the shadows.
Most Pals that can be obtained through fishing are Water element Pals, their variants, and Pals based on marine animals.

Ride a Swimming Mount Pal
If you spot fish shadows out of reach, you can ride a mountable Pal that can swim in the water, such as Surfent or Azurobe. As long as your fishing rod is equipped, you can fish from the back of your mount.

Complete the Fishing Minigame
Once a fishable Pal takes your bait, reel it in. You will then be presented with a fishing minigame where you have to align the bar with the fish icon in order for the successful catch meter to go up.
If you struggle with this minigame but still want to obtain Pals caught through fishing, you can instead build a Fishing Pond in your base.
Build a Fishing Pond
You can safely fish for Pals at your base by unlocking the Fishing Pond from the Technology menu. Once unlocked, this can be crafted through the Build menu under Production.
With the Fishing Pond, you can choose the shadow size of the fish that will spawn, determining the set of Pals that can be obtained. Small and medium shadows are available at the regular Fishing Pond. The Large Fishing Pond has large shadows available in addition to the small and medium ones.
Unlike fishing out in the wild, you do not need a fishing rod to catch fish here. Pals at your base with the Handiwork work suitability will fish for you.
Obtain Fished Pals and Items from the Cooler
Any Pals and items obtained through the Fishing Pond must be claimed from the cooler box on the side of the structure. Upon collecting fished Pals, they will automatically be added to your Palbox.

Craft the Fishing Magnet
The Powerful Fishing Magnet is a Consumable Item that can be researched after reaching level 61. This item is required to collect items from the ocean floor. To craft it, you will need one Hexolite.

Swim Up To Floating Items
Once you have a fishing magnet and a fishing rod, you can swim up to floating items scattered around the seas to salvage items. Use a Water mount Pal while exploring the map to salvage items from ocean floors.
