How to Pick Locked Chests

Complete the Lockpick Minigame

To unlock a chest using a lockpick, you'll need to complete the Lockpicking Minigame first. This is a simple minigame where you'll need to find the sweet spot on the lock to open the chest.

There are 3 different lockpick tiers, with each tier requiring a higher level to unlock. The cost of making one also becomes more expensive the higher the tier is, but this is fine because you only need to craft each one once since they're counted as Key Items and have infinite uses.

Each Lockpick Tier has a corresponding Chest tier that it can unlock, similar to how keys work. Until you can craft the higher tier lockpicks, hold on to your keys so that you can unlock any rarer chest you come across.

Should You Use Keys or Lockpicks?

Lockpicks Are Superior to Keys

Unlike other games, Palworld's lockpicks have infinite uses and will always be available for use. They also don't take up inventory space since they're classified as Key Items similar to Lifmunk Effigies or Pal Gear. This means the value of keys is significantly reduced, allowing you to sell them for Gold if you don't need them.

The only benefit for using keys over lockpicks is if you need to quickly unlock a chest, like if you're raiding the Oil Rig. Other than that, lockpicks are superior to keys in every way.
