How to Get Nightstar Sand
Looted From Overworld

Nightstar Sand can be looted from the Overworld. Be sure to farm as many of this material as you can to build structures and constructs to ensure your survival.
Picked Up from Sand at Night
Nightstar Sand can be found only on certain sandy areas at night, mainly at the Dessicated Desert and numerous areas in Feybreak island. Simply walk up to a glowing spot on the ground and interact with it to get Nightstar Sand.
Spawns Around PIDF Tower
An easy way to get Nightstar Sand is to Fast Travel to the PIDF Tower Entrance waypoint at the Dessicated Desert and pick up them up around the PIDF Tower, usually at the back of it.
Spawns Around Paladius Boss Area
Nightstar Sand can also be found around the area where the Paladius boss is at the Dessicated Desert. If you are not looking for a fight, you can simply sneak around Paladius and Necromus while picking up the Nightstar Sand.
Spawns in the Withered Seaside
To the east of Feybreak Island, you can find Nightstar Sand scattered throughout the Withered Seaside.
As you enter Feybreak Island territory, make sure to be careful of the hostile Pals around as they are quite high-leveled.
Spawns in the Loess Plains
On the southern area of Feybreak Island, it may be easy to miss a small sandy area in Loess Plains, quite near to the Loess Plains waypoint. Nightstar Sand spawn there as well if you need the extra material!
Spawns in the Scorched Ashland
To the north of Feybreak Island lies a wide coast called the Scorched Ashland. You can Fast Travel to the Scorched Ashland waypoint to pick up some Nightstar Sand through the length of the area.
Spawns in the Deserted Ash Plateau
On the westward area of Feybreak Island, you will find the Deserted Ash Plateau. Feel free to visit here too via the Deserted Ash Plateau waypoint to grab some extra Nightstar Sand.

Prior to the Terraria crossover update, I knew of 2 places in the deep sand desert that spawned nightstar sand. One of them I confirmed today (7/19) southeast of the town, the other I've not yet located on the west side. I did collect sand on one side of the PIDF tower and from an area within sight of the twin Legends. It didn't occur to me at the time to get screenshots. I have not yet explored the other places listed.
