With a Mining Site, you can produce Ore even without any nodes nearby. While you can work it yourself, it's best to have a Mining Pal do the gathering.

It is best to remember that in order to unlock Ore Mining Site II, you will need to unlock its former counterpart first, the standard Ore Mining Site.
It is located under the Ancient Technology Tree and is unlockable once you reach Level 15 and spending 2 Ancient Technology Points.
How to Get Ancient Technology Points Fast
In order to Build Ore Mining Site II, you will have to reach Level 31. Once done, you can unlock it under the Ancient Technology Tree by spending 3 Ancient Technology Points.
If however, you haven't reached the required level to build Ore Mining Site or Ore Mining Site II, you can build your base next to an ore deposit so that you will still have your own ore mining location for the time being.
