New Gameplay Features in FF7 Rebirth |

|
In addition to the commands and abilities you can use in combat, party members can now use Synergy Skills in battles. These are quick commands two members can perform that cost no ATB charge.
These are different from the Synergy Abilities that require "Synergy charges" on both participating party members to use. Synergy Abilities are more powerful moves and has a dedicated attack animation similar to Limit Breaks.

Combat capabilities of characters can now be improved through Folio Skill Trees. These skill trees contain skill cores that unlock Synergy Abilities, Synergy Skills, stat boosts, and even each character's Lv3 Limit Breaks!
You can activate skill cores using SP obtained from Manuscripts.
Another new gameplay feature tied to combat is the playable Red XIII! But what makes him different from the other characters?
In Rebirth, Red XIII will have a Vengeance Gauge separate from his ATB Gauge that, after activating, improves his combat performance and unlocks other abilities.
The Vengeance Gauge fills by blocking attacks or by using Counterspin, which can be triggered by attacking right after getting hit.
You can now launch enemies airborne and continue punishing them in midair! Melee characters can now attack and perform combos in midair using basic attacks and abilities.
Some abilities even have additional effects when used in midair!
With large areas and maps added, the party will need new means of transport for smooth exploration. Aside from being means of fast travel, Chocobos can now be used as mounts to explore the wild areas!
Each region has a different type of Chocobo, such as Mountain Chocobos that can scale cliffs and Sky Chocobos that can glide. Make sure to utilize their unique capabilities to fully explore even the hidden parts of the region!
Chocobo Locations in All Regions
You can even change the appearance of your Chocobos by changing its equipped helmet, breastplate, and greaves! These are purely cosmetic when in the field, but will give various buffs when equipped in Chocobo Races!
A Buggy will also be available when exploring one of the regions in the game. The party can also ride the Tiny Bronco to move from one region to another and even sail the Meridian Sea!
More Summons like Alexander, Titan, and Phoenix are added to aid you in battle! Like in Remake, these are obtained through Chadley's Combat Simulator.
You can battle them at their full power, but you can also opt to weaken them first by finding Sanctuaries in each region for an easier fight and acquisition!
All Summons and How to Get Them
The expansive map is filled with activities to complete that will help you progress smoothly in the story! Work with Chadley in looking into these World Intel and unlock various side content!
World Intel | Description |
---|---|
Towers | Reveals the location of nearby World Intel and clears the map fog around it when activated. |
Protorelics | Unlocks minigames that reward you with a piece of a legendary swordsman's armor. |
Divine Intel | Weakens the region's summon in the Combat Simulator and increases their power when obtained and used in a battle. |
Fiend Intel | Fight rare and stronger variants of field enemies. |
Lifesprings | Unlocks Excavation Intel and Classified Intel in the region. |
Excavation | Contains Transmuter Chips your chocobos can locate and dig to unlock more craftable items. |
Classified Intel | Challenge the most powerful field enemy in the region. |
Moogle Intel | Round up all the escape moogles and unlock more items in the Moogle Emporium. |
Materials you pick up while exploring can be used to craft Consumables, Armor, and Accessories!
Crafting EXP will be given when crafting an item for the first time. Increasing your Craftsmanship level to unlock more crafting recipes!
The Chocobo Race and other minigames from the original FF7 have been included in Rebirth! Players can take a break first from all the battling by checking out the attractions and playing minigames at the Gold Saucer!
New gameplay mechanics were implemented on these side content to make your visit more enjoyable.
List of All Available Minigames and Locations
A "returning feature" from the original, as FF7 Remake's linear story locks you in areas available in the chapter and out of the rest.
There also wasn't a way to go back for the contents that you missed outside the Chapter Selection available in the post-game.
FF7 Rebirth is semi-open world, in a sense that you won't be able to go anywhere you want at the beginning, but the explorable areas will expand as you progress the story.
This allows you to revisit previously unlocked areas even after completing the associated main objectives. You can even see changes in some areas based on your progress!
