Woodland Vigil Walkthrough and Rewards

Woodland Vigil is a Side Quest that can be unlocked during Chapter 12 of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth). Read on to learn more about how to unlock Woodland Vigil, how to complete it, as well as the available rewards for completing the side quest.

Reach Chapter 12 and Arrive at Costa del Sol

In order to unlock Woodland Vigil, you will first need to reach Chapter 12 of the main story. Once you arrive at Costa del Sol during the chapter's opening segment, Chapter 12 side quests should become available after the short cutscene on the dock.

Complete Gongaga Side Quests

Before you can unlock Woodland Vigil, you will need to play its prerequisite quests Escape from Endless Writer's Block, as well as The Spice of Life and its own prerequisite quest Teach Me, Great Warrior in Chapter 12.

How to Complete Woodland Vigil

1. Talk to Cissnei by the Village's Entrance

Talk to Cissnei by the Village's Entrance

After accepting the job, you can easily find Cissnei talking to her fellow townsfolk by the Gongaga Village's entrance.

She will inform you of a powerful fiend terrorizing Gongaga. She will then give you her binoculars and ask you to survey the surrounding areas for any suspicious movement, and find and defeat the fiend.

Head to the Observation Tower

1. Fast travel to Activation Intel 5: Fungi Forest Tower. 2. Climb up the rope. 3. Walk up towards Expedition Intel 3: Valefloor Lifespring. 4. Continue up the hill toward the root slide.

In order to complete the step "Survey the Surrounding Area", you need to head for the Observation Tower, which can be accessed by riding the roots from a place a bit northeast of the quest objective.

Look for Two Suspicious Movements

Climb to the top of the Observation Tower and get onto the pedestal. Use Cissnei's binoculars by holding triangle to inspect suspicious movements easily marked in the distance.

Each time you find any suspicious activity, Cloud will prompt the party to go to the location and investigate. You need to do this twice to progress the quest.

Defeat the Fiends and Return to the Tower

Each time you reach a location, you will encounter rare fiends that you will need to put down, particularly a Grandhorn Warden and a Pastel Amphidex separately.

After each encounter, Cloud will prompt the party to return to the Outlook Tower to search for more suspicious movements.

Look for the Large Shadow

By the third time you return to the tower, Aerith will point out an activity that is more suspicious than the others. Get on the pedestal once more to spot the Large Shadow, then make your way there.

Defeat the Gigantoad

The fiend you're after is a Gigantoad. It has a hefty amount of HP and prodigious might, and can swallow a teammate when it uses Capture.

You can pressure it by countering its tongue attacks, or by tiring it out. Doing so will allow you to attack its tongue to pressure it. Follow it up with staggering moves like Focused Thrust and exploit its Ice weakness by using Ice spells.

How to Beat Gigantoad

Talk to Cissnei

Cissnei will automatically appear right after defeating the Gigantoad, and she will reward you with Volume VI of Fortunes Untold, which gives Cait Sith 10 SP.

You can ask her one question, to which she will respond with the same answer—that it's “none of your business”. After the cutscene, your relationship with Aerith will deepen.

Increase Favorability With Aerith

Completing Woodland Vigil will also increase your friendship with Aerith. This will affect the events that will occur when you visit the Gold Saucer later in the game.
