Victim of Circumstance Walkthrough and How to Get the Vibrodetector

Reach Chapter 12 of Main Story

Progress through the game until you reach Chapter 12 of the main storyline, then head to the Cosmo Canyon Region.

Victim of Circumstance will not be immediately available upon reaching Chapter 12. You can unlock Victim of Circumstance by first completing the Cosmo Canyon side quests From Whence Life Flows and Promises to Keep.

Find Zhijie and Accept his Quest

You can head to the Community noticeboard in Cosmo Canyon and accept the quest from there, or head to the indicated location on the map to find Zhijie stranded there. Accept his quest to obtain a Vibrodetector.

Obtain Rank 4 in Moogle Intel

You need to raise your Moogle Merchant Rank to Rank 4 in order to purchase the Vibrodetector. You can improve your Moogle Merchant Rank by finding Moogle Intel locations and completing the minigames at each spot.

Note that Moogle Intel can go up to Rank 7 but we recommend completing only these four to reach Rank 4.

Purchase a Vibrodetector From Moogle Emporium

Upon reaching Moogle Merchant Rank 4, purchase the Vibrodetector from the Moogle Emporium, which can be accessed by talking to the Moogle at every Moogle Intel location. The Vibrodetector will cost 3 Moogle Medals, which can be farmed by destroying boxes around the map.

Use Vibrodetector to Track the Fiend

Press the D-Pad Up button to use the Vibrodetector and track down the fiend by following the signal. When the Vibrodetector signal sends out a blue pulse, it means that you're heading in the right direction. If it sends out a red pulse, you're heading the wrong way.

Where to Track Down the Fiend

At the 2nd location, you will fight Desert Sahagin, which are weak to Ice, and a Stone Golem, which is weak to Wind.

Defeat the Gigaworm

When you've arrived at the third and final signal located northwest of Activation Intel 3: Dried Oasis Tower, the Gigaworm will appear in the field for you to battle. It is weak to Ice, so use Blizzard magic to your advantage.

Avoid Its Diving Attacks

The Gigaworm will emerge from the sand and attempt to Swallow you. It is easiest to dodge forward, toward the hole it came out of, in order to avoid being eaten and taken away from the fight.

Attack its Stomach to Free Party Members

If the Gigaworm happens to swallow one of your party members, concentrate your attacks on its stomach. This builds up its stagger gauge and provides you an advantage in battle.

Completing Victim of Circumstance will also increase your friendship with Yuffie. This will affect the events that will occur when you visit the Gold Saucer later in the game.

Secrets of the Ninja Vol. XI in Hard Mode

While playing in Hard Mode, completing this side quest will reward you the Secrets of the Ninja Vol. XI for Yuffie. You can access Hard Mode after completing your first playthrough of the game in any difficulty.
