All 5 Characters Can be Taken on a Date

All five of the characters above are eligible for the Gold Saucer Date events in Chapter 8 and Chapter 12. Making the right choices in the dialogues and story beats above, as well as completing Side Quests and using Synergy Skills with that character, will ensure that you get the character you want on the Date, and are able to achieve their Intimate Date scene in Chapter 12.

A section in this chapter requires you to pick and change into a swimsuit. Choosing the right swimsuit depends on whether you are pursuing a relationship with either Tifa or Aerith.

The correct choice of swimsuit should match either one of their swimsuits, or perhaps even both at the same time. This rewards the player with relationship points with the respective character.

Recruiting Yuffie consists of a series of prompts that all lead to her joining the party. Choosing the best answers each time causes the cutscene to move on to the next prompt without interruption and gives you affection bonus with her.

Choosing the bad answers causes Yuffie to run away, ending the cutscene preemptively. However, she will reappear again if you leave the area and the series of prompts will continue from there.

Pull The Lever to Increase Barret or Yuffie's Relationship

Near the end of Chapter 7, you will have to make a choice that will raise your relationship with Barret or Yuffie in the Coal Mines - Ground Level.

Keep the lever on the left side to increase your relationship with Barret. Pull the lever on the right side to increase your relationship with Yuffie. The decision is finalized once Cloud talks to the other group.

Fight Dio in 3D Brawler

Although this is not a dialogue choice, fighting against Dio in the 3D Brawler minigame gives you affection bonus with Red XIII. This happens regardless of whether you win or lose the minigame but winning will significantly improve the relationship.

If you do well in the minigame where you control Barret at the back of the buggy, you will receive affection bonus with him.

You must talk to everyone first before speaking with Aerith. You will receive a "Ceremony preparations are underway." if you talk to her first before talking to all of the party members.

Although these are not dialogue choices, the actions below allow you to increase the affection of Yuffie and Red XIII when you play with them in two minigames in Chapter 12.

Defeat Yuffie at the 3D Brawler Minigame

After talking to Dio, you can talk to Yuffie and play the 3D Brawler minigame at Wonderment Square. Defeating her at the minigame increases her affection values.

Rematch Red XIII in Queen's Blood

You can find and battle Red XIII in Queen's Blood at the Gold Saucer. Beating him at the card game increases his affection values.

Note that this opportunity is only available after talking to Dio but before you rest at the hotel to activate the Gondola date.

First Gold Saucer Visit in Chapter 8

On your first visit to the Gold Saucer in Chapter 8, you'll be accompanied by the character who you have the highest relationship level with at that point in the story. This means that making additional romance choices after Chapter 8 can result in a different partner appearing on the date in Chapter 12.

However, if your relationship values among the 5 romance options are too low at this point, no one will accompany you as seen in the above video clip.

Gold Saucer Date Guide

Loveless Play in Chapter 12

The character you have had the highest relationship with will be the one to accompany you during the Loveless play in Chapter 12. However, if your relationship values among the 5 romance options are too low at this point, the trio consisting of Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent will accompany you instead.

The role of Rosa depends on your relationship with Aerith, Tifa, and Yuffie

If you had either Tifa, Aerith, or Yuffie to accompany you, they will also play as Rosa in the Loveless play.

If you had either Barret or Red XIII accompany you, they will still have the same roles as Varvados and Garm respectively.

Soulmate choice does not give affection bonus

There is a choice to choose your soulmate between Barret, Red XIII, and the girl playing as Rosa during the Loveless play sequence. This choice does not affect your relationship values and only changes a short cutscene before the play's ending scene.

Skywheel Date in Chapter 12

The character that accompanies you during the Loveless play will also be the same one that you will take to the Skywheel date in Chapter 12. This also applies if you had Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent.

Intimate Scene appears if you have high enough relationship level

There is an Intimate Scene and a Standard Scene for all 5 romance options except for the trio (Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent) as they only have a Standard Scene. The Intimate Scene only appears if your relationship progress with the character is high.

Try to raise the relationship level with your preferred romance partner before reaching this point in the game if you want to be sure to see the Intimate Scene.

Chapter 12: A Golden Key Walkthrough

Bad Date with Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent

If you did not improve your relationship with any of character, you will end up with a rather awkward date with Cait Sith, Cid, and Vincent.

While this may not be the most romantic and intimate of moments, it's certainly one of the funniest in the game and could make for a good laugh.

How to Change Romance Choices

Select a Chapter to Redo Romance Choices

You will not be required to begin the story from scratch as FF7 Rebirth allows you to reselect a chapter you want to go through again.

You will have to clear the game to unlock the Chapter Selection function, as this was the case in FF7 Remake.

Once you have unlocked Chapter Selection, go through the chapter find the event that prompted the choice, and select the favorable answer to increase your romance or relationship levels.

Freely Select Romantic Outcomes in Extra Settings

In addition to unlocking the Chapter Selection feature, you could also access the Extra Settings after you've finished the game.

Extra Settings allow you to decide the outcome of certain chapters in the game, such as deciding the romantic companions you'll have during the story cutscenes.

Do note that companion options will only appear for the select chapters in Extra Settings if you have enough romance levels with those characters, so you may need to redo previous chapters and make different choices to have all the options available.

Selecting the right dialogue choices during specific interactions with your characters can raise the relationship you have with them.

It is important to note that completing quests or odd jobs related to characters in your party can help increase your relationship status with them.

Another way to increase your relationship with other characters is to use them in your party and execute synergy skills that correspond to them. It is recommended that you set the characters you want to raise your romance or relationship within your party.

How to Check Your Romance and Relationship Levels

Press L1 to Check Character Relationships

You could always check the romance or relationship levels of other characters by pressing L1 when they are currently available in the field.

Their romance or relationship levels are indicated by certain symbols depicted by the emoticons floating above their head.

Check the Play Log to See the Relationship Status of Party Members

After completing the game, you can check the relationship progress of each party member on the Play Log. Their results for each of the dialogue choices and story beats will be displayed.

You can access this screen on the System settings from the Pause menu.

Previous Dialogue Choices Appear in Chapter Select

Replaying the story chapters via Chapter Select after finishing the main story lets you see the results for dialogue choices which you chose in a previous playthrough, with a maximum value of 3 stars for the best choices.
