Mewgenics co-creator says the game will receive two DLC expansions, with a smaller update planned first and a larger one later. Here’s what the developers shared about the game’s upcoming updates.
Mewgenics Dev Shares DLC Plans
First DLC Described as "Small," Larger Expansion To Follow
Mewgenics co-creator Edmund McMillen said on March 11 during an AMA on X (Twitter) that the game will receive "at least two" DLC expansions. He also briefly outlined what players can expect from the first update.
When asked about the timing of the first planned major balance patch and the scope of the game’s first DLC, McMillen said the balance update should arrive "soonish" before outlining the early concept for the expansion. "First [DLC] will be small but substantial enough to make many happy. 4 new classes (300+ new abilities) tons of unlocks and more things to do," the post read.

However, despite being described as "small," the first DLC appears to introduce a fairly substantial update to the game’s class system and progression. In Mewgenics, players breed cats and send them into turn-based battles, with each cat belonging to a class that determines how it behaves in combat. Adding four new classes would expand the number of team combinations available to players, alongside more than 300 new abilities that can change how encounters play out. McMillen also mentioned "tons of unlocks," referring to additional content players can earn through progression, such as new abilities, items, or gameplay features.
On the other hand, McMillen said the second DLC is expected to be larger and will arrive later, potentially focusing on a fourth act, which typically means a new section of the game’s campaign with additional areas, enemies, and encounters.

The first Mewgenics DLC was previously confirmed to be in early development. In a February 21 post on X, Glaiel said he and McMillen had begun discussing and mapping out ideas for the expansion.
He suggested the first DLC is intended to be relatively small and could arrive "ideally like, end of next year maybe," though he noted the timeline could change as the team continues supporting the base game.
What’s Next for Mewgenics

Meanwhile, when asked whether he has any other projects planned while continuing to support Mewgenics, McMillen said he currently has no concrete plans. "I honestly have no hard plans outside of fluffing up [M]ewgenics for the next few years, probably merch and other fun bits and pieces."
Co-creator Tyler Glaiel, in a separate post, shared the team’s update plans for the base game, including a bug-fix patch on the beta branch later this week, potentially one or two additional bug-fix updates this month, and a larger Version 1.1 balance patch targeted for April.

Released on February 10, Mewgenics is a tactical roguelike where players breed generations of cats and send them into turn-based battles, assembling teams with different classes, traits, and abilities to take on randomized encounters.
