Barret
Lvl. 70 |
• Ability Spammer • Tank-Support • Equipped with materia that will support the party through ATB filling, healing, and tanking damage. |
Tifa
Lvl. 70 |
• Weapon Ability Spammer • Stagger Multiplier • Tifa will take the role of a frontliner and will unleash her combos on enemies to build ATB and spam abilities. • She will also be used to increase the stagger damage multiplier on enemies with Unbridled Strength. |
Aerith
Lvl. 70 |
• Spell-Caster • Elemental Weakness Exploiter • Immobilizer • Aerith will be mainly used to nuke enemies with elemental spells. • She is also equipped with debuffing spells to make quick work of bosses. |
This build can only be achieved after completing the game and gathering all World Intel data.
This is an all-rounder build that boasts high physical and magic damage along with its ability to sustain the party's HP.
Always start fights with Barret's Lifesaver and Steelskin abilities as this will allow Barret to tank all the damage taken by the party.
To mitigate the damage taken, Barret is equipped with Chakra to regain his lost health. With Barret's fast ATB gauge fill rate, spamming Chakra would not be a problem.
Press the launchpad on your controller to view an enemy's weaknesses and strategize which element to use or debuff to apply to them.
Keep in mind that an enemy's weaknesses will only show up with this method if you previously used Assess on the enemy.
Use Aerith's spells if the enemies are weak to elemental attacks. If the enemies are not weak to elemental attacks, stick with Tifa and use her combos to deal damage.
Aerith should have a full ATB gauge when starting fights thanks to the Chocoking's Cape and First Strike materia. Make sure to cast Arcane Ward first before using ATB Boost. This should grant you two ATB charges and an Arcane Ward; enough to double-cast a max-level spell.
With Magnify paired with each magic elemental materia, Aerith should be able to clear mobs in one spell cast within an Arcane Ward.

This is the best materia and equipment combination to deal with enemies in Hard Mode.
Most defensive and healing materia like Pray and Chakra will be on Barret as his Lifesaver ability will take care of the damage received by the rest of the party. With his fast ATB gauge fill rate, Barret should be able to spam Chakra to sustain his own HP.
Self-sustaining materia like Plasma Discharge paired with HP Absorption and Chakra are placed on Tifa as she builds ATB fast and can move in and out of combat, allowing her to be effective even if she's not actively controlled.
Tifa will also have Petrify equipped to help Aerith with petrifying enemies which are weak to stone or staggering bosses faster.
Aerith will be the nuker of the team with magic elemental materia equipped and paired with Magnify. Cast her spells in an Arcane Ward to double the cast and the damage you deal to enemies.

Barret
Lvl. 70 |
• Ability Spammer • Tank-Support • Equipped with materia that will support the party through ATB filling, healing, and tanking damage. |
Yuffie
Lvl. 70 |
• Secondary Caster
• Yuffie's role is to clone herself and cast spells from Aerith's Arcane Ward. • She will also be used to exploit enemy weaknesses using her ninjutsu and other abilities. |
Aerith
Lvl. 70 |
• Spell-Caster • Elemental Weakness Exploiter • Immobilizer • Aerith will be mainly used to nuke enemies with elemental spells. • She is also equipped with debuffing spells to make quick work of bosses. |
This is the best party composition for using Magic Attacks in Hard Mode. It allows up to six multicasts of Quaga which will greatly help in immobilizing enemies and staggering bosses and other enemies fast.
The build also boasts a powerful ability to sustain the party's health thanks to Barret's capabilities of spamming Chakra.
Barret is the leader of your party and is your starting character in all your fights. Immediately cast Lifesaver and Steelskin to tank damage for your entire party, then proceed to use Turbulent Spirit to hasten your ATB gauge fill rate.
Once you have enough ATB, cast Haste on Yuffie and Aerith with Yuffie being the priority.
Yuffie should cast Doppelganger first to build ATB faster. Granted Haste by Barret, Yuffie should be able to build a full ATB gauge for her spell combo with Aerith.
With two full ATB gauges from Chocoking's Cape and First Strike, Aerith should be able to cast Arcane Ward immediately and use ATB Boost to regain the lost ATB gauge.
Cast elemental spells or Quaga with Aerith, Yuffie, and the Doppelganger standing on the Arcane Ward to fire off a total of 6 max-level spells on an enemy.

Similar to the All-Rounder build for Endgame, this build relies on Barret tanking the damage for the entire team. Barret will be equipped with many defensive and healing materia to be effective.
Yuffie will have Petrify to help with Aerith, but most of the materia equipped on her will act as a utility to speed up her ATB charge rate to set up fast and cast max-level spells.
Aerith will have all magic elemental materia paired with Magnify to clear mobs fast. With Chocoking's Cape, First Strike, and ATB Boost she should be able to cast a max-level spell in an Arcane Ward at the start of battle.

Cloud
Lvl. 40+ |
• Ability Spammer • Semi-Tank • Cloud is responsible for accumulating ATB and using it to activate the Plasma Discharge ability. • Focused more on Prime Mode (Punisher Mode). |
Tifa
Lvl. 40+ |
• Basic Attacker • Stagger Multiplier • With Unfettered Fury, Tifa will take the role of staggering enemies and increasing their stagger damage multiplier with Unbridled Strength. |
Aerith
Lvl. 40+ |
• Spell-Caster • Elemental Weakness Exploiter • Healer • Aerith will only be used when players need to heal the party and when enemies are staggered (exploit weakness through spells). |
This build can be accomplished after you obtain the Igneous Saber and Crystal Gloves during Chapter 11 in Nibelheim.
This is an All-Rounder build that is expected to carry you until the end of the game due to its ease of use, damage output, and survivability.
Players should always start with Cloud and activate the Plasma Discharge ability first by using 1 ATB charge. Then build another ATB charge to activate Prime Mode next, from that point onwards you can already swap to Tifa and let Cloud's AI do the work for you.
As Tifa when the enemy still has high health, you should always use Unfettered Fury instead of Unbridled Rage. Basic combos from Unfettered Fury stagger enemies faster, which is more useful at the start of a fight.
After staggering an enemy Tifa should have two more ATB charges which you'll now use to activate Unbridled Strength twice. Have Aerith activate an Arcane Ward then swap back to Tifa to increase the damage multiplier on the staggered enemy.
While using Aerith, make sure to stand in your Arcane Ward and choose a spell that exploits the weakness of the staggered enemy. With the damage multiplier and the double cast from Arcane Ward, this should deal high damage numbers.
This is the best materia and equipment combination to mitigate any weaknesses of this team composition.
Most defensive and self-sustaining Materia will be placed on Cloud as the team will count on his defense stance while on Prime Mode.
Utility and damaging Materia are placed on Tifa as she builds ATB fast and can move in and out of combat, allowing her to utilize them without worry.
Magic and Support are placed on Aerith since she will be the nuker of the team, granting her access to all elements so she can fit any combat scenario.

Barret
Lvl. 29+ |
• Tank and Support • In charge of buffing, healing, spellcasting, and tanking for the team. • Barret will be the most-controlled character in the party. |
Cloud
Lvl. 29+ |
• Ability Spammer • Main Damage Dealer • Main damage dealer of the group through his abilities whenever his ATB is charged. • Capable of airborne movement and attacks. |
Tifa
Lvl. 29+ |
• Attacker • Stagger Multiplier • Tifa's role is to repeatedly increase the stagger multiplier of enemies to pave the way for Cloud's abilities. |
The party can be set up right after you obtain the Barrage Blaster weapon for Barret while climbing Mount Corel in Chapter 7.
The party is mainly focused on staggering enemies and increasing the stagger damage multiplier to capitalize on Cloud's ability damage.
To pull off the party composition, Barret must be proficient with the Gatling Gun, Hi-Caliber Rifle, and Barrage Blaster, as Focused Shot and Bonus Round are important for staggering enemies, while Lifesaver is used to tank damage for the party.
Haste from the Time Materia will also be used on Barret to charge the party's ATB gauges faster, this allows Tifa to raise her Chi faster which would then be used to increase the stagger damage multiplier on enemies for Cloud to take advantage of.

Weapon: Sylph Gloves
○ Enemy Skill ○ Chakra ○ Assess ○ Empowerment ○ Titan (Summon) Armor: Abyssal Bangle ○-○ Auto-Weapon Ability + HP Absorption ○ HP Up Accessory: Speed Demon Keychain Weapon Skill: • ATB Charge Rate Up • Attack Damage +5% |
This is the best materia and equipment combination to make this team composition work.
The ability and skill rotations for this team rely on Barret, Haste will increase the ATB gauge fill rate for the party, cast this on Barret first followed by Steelskin, cast Haste on Tifa to speed up her ATB and reach Chi level 3 once her ATB gauge is full.
With Pray, Steelskin, Overcharge, weapon abilities, and the Elemental (Support) Materia linked to your chosen Elemental Magic Materia, Barret will be responsible for healing, pressuring, and staggering enemies.
Tifa's role is to increase her ATB fast and increase the damage multiplier for staggered enemies through her unique abilities. She should be able to cast two cycles of Rise and Fall and Omnistrike with Haste, Speed Demon Charm, and ATB Charge Rate Up.
Cloud will be a non-controlled character for the majority of the fight, this is because you'll want to save his abilities to nuke your staggered opponents.

Relentless Rush This ability is useful for this team composition as it increases the damage multiplier on staggered enemies and prolongs their staggered period. |
|
Avalanche Two-Step Increases the stagger time on staggered enemies; beneficial for Tifa's increase on stagger damage multiplier. |
Relentless Rush and Avalanche Two-Step will increase the stagger time against staggered enemies, this would then synergize by spamming Tifa's unique abilities twice which should put the multiplier at least at x250% that will apply on Cloud's Braver.

Cloud
Lvl. 20+ |
• Attacker and Tank
• Aerial-capable • Cloud is the best frontline of the crew thanks to his high offensive capabilities and decent tankiness. • Capable of airborne attacks and is able to block majority of enemy attacks. |
Tifa
Lvl. 20+ |
• Attacker and Support
• Tifa is a valuable attacker for the team, thanks to her unique abilities that increase stagger damage multipliers. • With Tifa's attack speed and agile movement, she can support the party by building up the stagger meter. |
Barret
Lvl. 20+ |
• Tank and Support • Valued for his Fast Staggering abilities and tankiness during combat. • Swap to Barret to take aggro away from the rest of the party and shoot enemies from a distance! |
This party can be set up right after your first visit to Billy's Ranch in the Grasslands.
Cloud is the recommended character to pick as the party leader as his playstyle is the easiest to manage. With abilities like Braver and Firebolt Blade for single-target damage, and Triple Slash for multiple targets, Cloud can easily fight on his own, especially against trash mobs.
Tifa is the recommended secondary attacker to trivialize most fights and make boss fights easier thanks to her unique abilities that raise the stagger damage multiplier when she uses them.
Meanwhile, Barret is the recommended tank for your party thanks to his Steelskin ability that allows him to reduce the damage he takes.
Barret is also the recommended support for your party due to his Bonus Round Ability, and Overcharge unique ability that significantly increases stagger build-up.

Barret |
Weapon: Hi-Caliber Rifle
○-○ Healing + Prayer ○ MP Up ○ Shiva (Summon) Armor:Leather Bangle ○ HP Up Accessory: Bulletproof Vest Weapon Skill: Magic Attack Power +20 |
This is the best equipment for your party to breeze through combat situations during the early chapters of the game.
Keep in mind that Tifa's Sylph Gloves is only obtainable in Chapter 3, which means that during the fight with Midgardsormr you'll only have the Leather Gloves. If you only have Leather Gloves, it's best to replace the Lightning Materia on Cloud with the Assess Materia.
Barret will have MP Up and Magic Attack Power +20 to increase his healing proficiency as healing will be a part of his support kit.

Relentless Rush This ability is useful for this team composition as it increases the damage multiplier on staggered enemies and prolongs their staggered period. |
|
Member | Limit Break |
Catasrophe A limit break best used against tough enemies or bosses to increase their stagger build up fast. |
Relentless Rush increases the damage multiplier for stunned enemies, doubling down on Tifa's unique abilities, which gives the party huge damage multipliers that can trivialize some challenging fights.
Catastrophe is a core limit break for the party as it significantly increases the stagger bar of an enemy which would provide damage multipliers.
Character | Strengths and Roles |
---|---|
Cloud | Attacker ・ Exceptional at offense. ・Has several combos for a versatile playstyle. ・Can easily enter airborne combat. |
Aerith | Caster and Support ・Great for healing and support. ・Spell-dependent but has MP restoration capabilities. ・Buffs spellcasting through wards. |
Tifa | Attacker and Support ・ Exceptional at offense. ・Capable of going airborne. ・Has abilities for increasing attack and HP restoration. |
Barret | Tank and Support ・Attacks enemies at ranged with his Gatling Gun. ・Naturally has high HP and defense for tanking enemies. |
Red XIII | Tank, Attacker, and Caster ・Can block efficiently and self-sustain. ・Great for dealing with multiple enemies. ・High magic attack and can charge ATB fast. |
Yuffie | Attacker and Caster ・Has access to all elements. ・Can charge ATB fast. ・Can double cast spells. |
Cait Sith | Support ・Has a lot of supporting abilities. ・Can buff and debuff without spells. |
Characters with the Attacker role are best suited for dealing damage in combat. You will want to strike a balance between strength and survivability for these characters since attacks will guarantee always catching the attention of a target.
The Support characteristic is often a second nature of some characters since they naturally have abilities that benefit them and other members, or put enemies at a disadvantage.
The Support role also includes healing allies and staggering enemies, although any character can cast heal and stagger, some characters are more efficient for the job.
Caster is a unique position some characters can get into (and most often they will also fill the support role). Keeping them away from combat is recommended to prevent damage and have them fight from a ranged position instead.
Aerith undoubtedly fits in this category thanks to her wards, you will always want to have a magic elemental materia connected with special effects such as Magnify or Swiftcast.
The Tank excels in having the highest survivability of the group. This role is determined through stat boosts, spells, and playstyles involving catching enemy attention. In essence, the tank is the shield of the party.
Barret is seen to fulfill this role so far based on his stats and ability to attack and disturb enemies at range with his gun arm.

I think there is a mistake in the mid game build, both Tifa and cCoud are using auto-unique ability and HP absorption materials. I believe there is only one of each in the game. I could be wrong but I can’t anything saying otherwise, ta.
