Stat Priority for Spellblade Builds

Might > Intellect = Dexterity > Resolve > Constitution > Perception

Might > Intellect = Dexterity > Resolve > Constitution > Perception.

For Spellblade builds, you want to lean towards melee and sustain in terms of stamina and essence. Thus, you'll want to prioritize Might to deal damage sustainably while also building up to using spells with a higher Grimoire Mastery.

Next is Intellect, since summoning weapons from your grimoire requires essence, and Dexterity for attack speed since you'll attack within melee range often. After that, invest in Resolve for more stamina to sustain spamming attacks.

Constitution is not much of a priority since good armor will suffice. Perception is also less of a priority since plenty of items boost Perception and crit chance in the mid-late game.

During Character Creation, it is recommended to invest 2 Points into everything except Constitution and Resolve.

Levels 1~13 Levels 13~Beyond

Rush Grimoire Mastery Rank 3 on Level 9

The Spellblade build only really comes together at Level 9. Investing in Intellect early on allows you to use the spells Grimoire Snap, Spirit Lance, and Blackbow reliably, with ample stamina and essence management. Until then, you will rely mainly on wand attacks and as your main source of damage.

Focus on Building Up Damage for Weapons in Grimoire

After Level 13, you'll have the option of either upgrading Spirit Lance and Blackbow, learning new spells, or progressing further in the Fighter tree. For a true spellblade experience, you can opt to learn low Essence cost spells that you can cast while two-handing your Great Sword.

  • Grimoire Snap Grimoire Snap: Synergizes well when casting while using your Great Sword since it deals excellent Stun while also interrupting enemy actions.
  • Corrosive Siphon Corrosive Siphon: Can be paired with an Arcane Veil cast to act as free healing during a fight.
  • Arcane Veil Arcane Veil: The only time this spell makes sense since you'll usually be in melee range as a Spellblade; prevents your channeling spells from being interrupted.
  • Blast of Frost Blast of Frost: Functions as magic DPS and CC, allowing you to Freeze enemies if you find yourself getting mobbed.
  • Bristling Frost Bristling Frost: Again, the only build that can make Bristling Frost work since you want to be in the thick of the melee. Pairs well with Blast of Frost due to Frost accumulation.

Note: Passives like Marksmanship and Finesse will improve your Spirit Lance and Blackbow damage, respectively. However, these are optional to get since both spells already do good damage even at Rank 1.

Best Weapons for Spellblade

Loadout 1 Wand Grimoire
Loadout 2 Great Sword

Click on a link above to see recommendations!

The Wand + Grimoire loadout will be your main focus for a Spellblade build, using Spirit Lance and Blackbow. The Great Sword in the secondary for when you are low on essence.

Superb Wand Will Suffice

For Wand choices, you can stick to the regular Wand and upgrade it to Superb. Since most of your damage will either be from Spirit Lance, Blackbow, spells, or your Great Sword, a Wand will be secondary at all times.

However, if you do plan to get a Wand for late game, consider getting Cruel Command. When equipped, your power attacks deal +75% Stun to enemies with full health, perfect for opening a fight so you build up Stun even before switching to a melee spell or weapon.

Get the Grimoire of the Spellblade Early On

For Grimoires, you'll want the Grimoire of the Spellblade for the early-mid game since it has both your main spells and you benefit from the Grimoire Mastery passive, making you substantially stronger with minimal resources.

Luckily, you can find a Grimoire of the Spellblade early on in Dawnshore, in a spider's nest near the Godless Altar and Emerald Stair Gatehouse.

Casting Spirit Lance and Blackbow with a grimoire is always stronger. Remember that even though the Grimoire of the Spellblade cannot be upgraded to Legendary, the rarity of your grimoire does not affect the strength of your spells.

Use a Great Sword as a Secondary Weapon

Great Swords provide considerable damage and good blocking for a secondary weapon. Some good ones to get are:

  1. Dawnshore: The Philosopher's Riddle since the attack speed passive is helpful and the bonus poison damage is a nice plus.
  2. Emerald Stair: Horsecutter for high stun during full combos.
  3. Shatterscarp: Get Hel's Tongue, found while doing the bounty on Xaurip Chief Grithin. Power Attack kills grant you essence, which is great since you'll switch to your secondary usually because you lack essence for grimoire spells.

Best Armor for Spellblade

It would be best to think about armor for Spellblade like how you would with a Fighter build. Thus, medium or heavy armor will be the way to go since you need considerable damage reduction to engange in melee-range fights often.

  1. Wayfarer’s Armor - passive health regen for when you are low health.
  2. Eothasian Breastplate - useful effect during the day, and increases healing.
  3. Vailian Breastplate - Simple medium armor with added damage reduction stats .

Boots Gloves

Ideally, you'll want to make up for lacking stats from the stat priority section with the clothes you choose. It's best to just use whatever's available in the early game, but you'll have to look for certain stats later on in the end game. If you don't like how your armor looks, you're always free to Transmog and wear your best-looking armor.

Use Boots with Attribute Bonuses, Stamina, or Dodge Distance

For early game, you can focus on getting boots that give tanky stats. As you reach mid-game, you can then start focusing on attributes like Dodge Distance and Stamina .

  1. Steel Garrote Boots(Early Game): +5 Carry Capacity and +1 Constitution.
  2. Vailian Boots: +1 Dexterity, +20% Dodge Distance, and +5 Carry Capacity.
  3. Shadowdancer's Boots: +5% Health Restoration from all sources and +40% Dodge Distance.
  4. Eothasian Boots: +1 Resolve, +30 Maximum Stamina, and +5 Carry Capacity.

Use Gloves that Boost Attributes, Raise Stamina, or Buff Damage

For gloves, you'll want the ones that can either boost your attributes, raise your crit chance, or buff damage. Here are some good ones to get:

  1. Blackwing Gloves (Early Game): +1% Critical Hit Chance and +10% Critical Damage.
  2. Canvas Gloves: +10% Stun.
  3. Wolf Gloves: +1% Critical Hit Chance and +1 Dexterity.
  4. Obsidian Order Gauntlets: -10% Stamina cost while Blocking and +3% Critical Hit Chance.
  5. Death Knight Gloves: -10% Stamina cost while Blocking and +15% Frost Damage.

Rings Amulets and Trinkets

In general, accessories that boost your attributes are good. This makes it easier to respec accordingly later on in the late game, when you have better armor and equipment.

Use Rings that Boost Attributes, Damage, or any Tank-Related Stats

Look for rings that provide extra tankiness to improve survivability.

  1. Wayfarer's Ring(Early Game): +20% Health and Essence regenration from Potions and Food.
  2. Ring of Major Deflection: +5% Damage Reduction.
  3. Berserker Ring: +3 Constitution.
  4. Bitter Bonding: 1% of your Attack Damage is restored as Health.

Use Attribute-Boosting Amulets or Trinkets Only

Though any amulet or trinket that provides attributes is good, improving our Perception would increase crit rate, which is helpful for raising overall damage. Rings for improving Might is also good if you think you can use more damage.

  1. Torc of the Warrior King: +1 Might.
  2. The Might of Thirdborn: +2 Might.
  3. Halma's Fancy: +2 Perception
  4. Scout's Reach: +3 Perception.
  5. Cartographer's Companion: +1 Dexterity and +2 Perception.
