Barret can be romanced in FF7 Rebirth but only during Chapter 12. This is because the Chapter 8 sequence includes Barret's story arc which makes it impossible to date him.

Best Dialogue Choices

You can increase Cloud's friendship level with Barret by choosing the best dialogue options at certain points of the story.

Answering with the most positive reply significantly increases their friendship level while a bad reply decreases it.

Chapter 2 (Kalm Village)

During Chapter 2 in Kalm Village, Barret is located in the northeast area of Kalm Village.

The dialogue options will become available once you can roam around Kalm Village.

Chapter 4 (Sea Dragon Square)

During Chapter 4 in Sea Dragon Square, Barret will be located inside his room at the Inn.

The dialogue options will become available at the inn after defeating the Terror of the Deep.

Chapter 6 (Costa del Sol)

After defeating the Grasptropod in Chapter 6, you can talk with your allies at the beach before leaving.

Chapter 9 (Gongaga Village)

Barret can be found outside of the inn on the west side of Gongaga Village in Chapter 9.

Chapter 10 (Cosmo Canyon)

The dialogue choices in Chapter 10 appear during the bonfire ceremony. All party members are gathered together in one area.

Make sure to talk to everyone first before speaking with Aerith. You will receive a "Ceremony preparations are underway." if you talk to her first before talking to all of the party members.

Chapter 11 (Nibelheim)

Find Barret inside Nidhogg Inn and turn right to find him sitting on a chair. You can immediately talk to him once you are free to roam in Nibelheim.

Use Synergy Skills with Cloud and Barret

Using a Synergy Skill for the first time with Barret and Cloud also gives a small boost to his friendship level. Subsequent uses of the same Synergy Skill won't have any more effects.

Barret Gold Saucer Date

Chapter 12 Gold Saucer Date

Barret will only be available as a Golden Saucer Date if you have the highest friendship level with him.

As there is an Intimate Scene and a Standard Scene for each character, try to raise the relationship level with Barret as high as you can to view the Intimate Scene.
