Beast Battleground is a battle-heavy minigame in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (FF7 Rebirth) that requires you to defeat a lineup of monsters. Read on to find out how to unlock Beast Battleground, tips and recommended characters, how to play, and rewards.
List of Contents
Beast Battleground is unlocked in Chapter 8 after landing in the Dustbowl after the Gold Saucer. You can only unlock this minigame after winning first place in the Chocobo Cup Race.
Beast Battleground is located in an underground tunnel. You will need to descend a long ladder to get there.
Until rescuing your friends in Chapter 8, the only character available to undertake Beast Battleground will be Cloud.
Chapter 8: All That Glitters Walkthrough
Since Beast Battleground requires a party member to fight alone, all enemy attacks will be focused on you. Your enemies will be relentless and will often try to put you in a bound state.
For this, we recommend Yuffie and Red XIII to counteract the incessant attacking of enemies. Some foes also move very quickly, often dodging your attacks. In this case, select Barret.
Assessing your opponents can make a huge difference in turning the tides in battle. Use it often to make the battles in Beast Battleground faster and plan your next moves!
If your characters are to fight alone, you have to make sure that the battle favors them in every way possible, and one way to do that is by optimizing their gear.
Before you engage in the battleground, double-check your characters' equipment and ensure that they have decent gear equipped.
Best Builds for Each Character
The first round will pit you against fast-moving critters that also attack quickly. Because of the successive attacks, Red XIII is the most recommended character for this round. Equip him with the Steadfast Block materia to give you an ATB Boost while guarding.
Simply keep blocking until your Vengeance Gauge fills up to a considerable amount, then activate it to unleash your own flurry of attacks. Additionally, if you have 2 ATB Charges to spare, cast Supernal Fervor to give yourself Haste.
This one's fairly easy as you only have one enemy to worry about. However, the Bagnadrana will try to subdue you once it gets too close, putting you in a bound state.
Yuffie and her exceptional dodging skills will work wonders for this battle, allowing you to deal the most damage while maintaining the most distance. Alternatively, you can use Barret.
Test 0 will be tricky to hit. It moves around very quickly before charging at you. It can also cast Regen on itself by taking a short rest, which can be your opening for an attack.
Since bullets are hard to dodge, Barret is the most recommended character for this round. Remember to block Test 0's charges and dodge its Bolstering Whip.
Round 1 of Prison Tourney will pit you against 2 Ogres, which will keep closing in on you no matter where you dodge. Though their attacks may be successive, they are also slow, which makes them prone to Perfect Blocks.
Red XIII and his guarding capabilities will prove useful for this fight. After unleashing Vengeance Mode both Ogres should fall down no problem.
While there's no timer in this minigame, the Bomb will function in the same manner, but with dire consequences—should you let it get too big, it will self-destruct, causing severe damage and could potentially knock you out.
The Cockatrice will keep charging at you with physical attacks. Since the Cockatrice and the Bomb are weak to fire and ice, respectively, bringing along Yuffie with her Elemental Ninjutsu and Aerith with her magic will net you victory.
This round will be twice as hard as the final round of the previous stage, as you now have 2 Test 0s to watch out for. But as fast as their attacks are, so too is Red XIII's guard.
Keep guarding until Red XIII's Vengeance Meter fills up. With the rate of the attacks coming at you, this meter should be full in no time. Then, unleash Vengeance Mode and cast Supernal Fervor on yourself before annihilating both enemies in record time.
Beast Battleground will have you fight against several monster lineups just like any other battle. However, you only get to select one character to fight. Select your best character and unleash fury on all who stand in your way!
