The Grasslands is the game's starting region. Here, players will find smaller outposts and swamplands where you'll need to rent a Chocobo from the local ranch if you want to cross.
The Junon Region is the area accessible in the second demo released for the game.
The Corel Region is the location of the Golden Saucer, a mega amusement park filled with minigames.
Gongaga is a small village situated in the middle of a verdant jungle and was also the site of a horrific mako reactor explosion. It is Zack's hometown.
The Cosmo Canyon is a rocky region situated atop a plateau and is home to Red XIII.
Nibelheim, a location within the Nibel Region, is the hometown of both Cloud Strife and Tifa Lockhart. It is also the location of the Shinra Manor, where Vincent Valentine rests in peace.
Nibel was the first area shown to players via the game's first demo.
The Meridian Ocean is an explorable region south of the world map composed of water. While details have not been revealed about this area of the world, it was shown during the State of Play event that players will be able to navigate the area using water-based vehicles.
Northwood is a region teased during FFVII Rebirth's showcase in PlayStation's State of Play event.

Chocobo Hidden Treasures or Chocobo Excavation Sites are buried items that can only be found and dug up by a Chocobo.
When the ? mark icon appears above your Chocobo, it means that they sense a buried treasure nearby. Hold the Up button to sniff the air and use the right stick on the controller to face the scent.
After facing the scent, it will start to become visible. Follow it and press the down button to excavate the treasure.
All Chocobo Hidden Treasure Locations
Chocobo Stops are fast travel points that allow you to immediately teleport from one location to another.
They are also rest stops, allowing you to recover HP and MP by spending a cushion.
Remnawave Towers or Activation Intel help reveal various nearby points of interest on the map.
It is recommended to activate these as soon as you can to help with exploration.
Different Fiend Intel Combat Assignments in each region pit Cloud and his friends against specific enemies where you must achieve certain conditions to complete the assignment.
Completing Combat Assignments will allow you to unlock new Combat Simulator Challenges where you can fight these monsters again.
When activated, Expedition Intel or Lifesprings unlock either Region Intel, Excavation Intel, or Classified Intel in addition to providing EXP.
Region Intel provides lore relating to the area or the surroundings. Excavation Intel provides the location of a buried item that can be unearthed by your Chocobo. Classified Intel provides an enemy for you to defeat.
Sanctuaries are World Intel locations that increase the Regional Data accumulated after they've been analyzed. Also, analyzing Sanctuaries will unlock weaker versions of the Summon in the Combat Simulator and enhance their respective Materia.
Cache locations provide chests that provide useful supplies. They are hidden among abandoned facilities and settlements.
Region | Protorelic Quest |
---|---|
Grasslands | Defeat Enemies |
Junon | Complete Fort Condor Minigame |
Corel | Find the Cactuar Rock and Complete Cactuar Crush Minigame |
Investigating Protorelics involves players engaging with different side stories and activities that differ between regions.
They are accomplished in order as the completion of a Protorelic quest is required to unlock the next.
All Protorelic Locations
Excavation Intel has you and your Chocobo sniffing out and digging up buried treasure. Unlike regular hidden treasure, Excavations offer Transmuter Chips which unlock Crafting Recipes for you to use.
All Excavation Intel Locations
Classified Intel usually pertains to the Secret Boss monsters found in each of the different regions of the game. Once you've scanned enough Lifesprings, Classified Intel becomes available, allowing you to challenge a powerul monster to get unique rewards.
All Classified Intel Locations
Ports are a fast travel feature that allows you to travel from one region to another. You can unlock them as you progress through the game, with the exception of the Chocobo Carriages as it is the only one locked behind a side quest.
During a developer interview for Final Fantasy 7 last September 14, 2023, it was mentioned that the order of the locations you can explore will not be the same as in the original FF7. This means that some locations from the original FF7 won't be available until part 3 of the remake is released. This includes Wutai, which was previously accessible in this section of the game. Although there are some changes in the order of the locations, the main story will still conclude in the Forgotten Capital.

The second junon Chocobo treasure location beside the crow's next rest stop is bugged or it was labeled in the wrong location because it doesn't trigger there for me.
