DEMETER Profile and Backstory

Personality

DEMETER is presented as having no hostility toward humans whatsoever. This is particularly noticeable when Aloy retrieves it and offers to bring it home to GAIA.

Horizon Zero Dawn

DEMETER was planned to be deployed after AETHER and POSEIDON, using the newly purified air and water to grow and sustain plant life on Earth. This processes was carried out with seeds banks and caches of genetic material, further assisted by machines created by HEPHAESTUS.

Horizon Forbidden West

When HADES was infected by the Mysterious Signal, GAIA destroyed herself to prevent it from taking over. During this period, an unstable and semi-conscious DEMETER fled to a processor somewhere in the Forbidden West. Aloy obtains DEMETER in the main quest Seeds of The Past, after traveling a vast expanse of wilderness along the far western coast.

DEMETER is also responsible for the Metal Flowers found throughout the world. As a tribute to its creator, Tanaka Naoto's love of poetry, DEMETER emebeds poem verses in the form of code in these flowers as a tribute.

DEMETER was responsible for replanting Earth's flora and other forms of vegetation. Its ability to do reforest the Earth at such a fast rate was further enhanced by working with machines created by HEPHAETSUS
