ARTEMIS is presented as having no hostility toward humans whatsoever. This is particularly noticeable when Aloy retrieves it and offers to bring it home to GAIA.
Similar to DEMETER, ARTEMIS was created to repopulate life on Earth. With the assistance of Machines created by HEPHAESTUS ARTEMIS would re-introduce animal life through caches of genetic material. ARTEMIS was unfortunately, only able to partially succeed in its task, creating the creatures that were referred to as 'pioneer animals'.
When HADES was infected by the Mysterious Signal, GAIA destroyed herself to prevent it from taking over. During this period, a deranged and semi-conscious ARTEMIS fled to a processor somewhere in the world. Its current location is unkown, even to GAIA.
ARTEMIS is responsible for the repopulation and nurturing of all animals on Earth. This means that ARTEMIS possesses the knowledge of every animal that has existed on Earth, as well as the proper functions necessary to recreate and sustain them.
