Sun-King Avad Profile and Backstory

Personality

As the current ruler of the Carja Sundom, Sun-King Avad is very protective of his people. Even in the regicide that killed his father, Jiran, he is described as a gentle soul.

Horizon Zero Dawn

His father Jiran, the so-called Mad Sun-King, came to the throne shortly before the Derangement - a sudden change in which the machines of the world went from docile to hostile, often attacking humans instead of fleeing from them. This shift was caused when GAIA destroyed herself to prevent HADES from extinguishing life on Earth, but the tribes of the world had no way of knowing that. Instead, they saw the change as mystical or supernatural.

This led Jiran to launch a war against neighboring tribes for the purpose capturing human sacrifices to the Sun-God. Initially, Avad tried to work from within the palace, pressuring his father to relent. When that failed, he joined forces with Oseram Freebooters and Carja dissidents to put an end to Jiran's evil deeds.

Horizon Forbidden West

Despite taking over a rebellion over a kingdom that was ravaged by tyranny, threatened by rebellion, and despised by other tribes, with the help of heroes like Aloy, Erend, Vanasha, and Blameless Marad, Avad has been able to protect and empower his people. Since the Battle of the Alight, he's been working hard to heal the schisms within the tribe and restore positive relations with other lands.

Skills and Abilities

Excellent Leader

Avad has always had excellent moral fiber. From his efforts to peacefully subdue his father's reign of terror to protecting and empowering his people. The people of the Carja sundom can take comfort in knowing they have him as their leader.
