The main protagonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. She was born in the 31st century, a time where humans live in small, primitive tribes, and the more technologically-advanced humans of the past are known as the Old Ones. She is a Nora Brave and machine hunter who is later discovered to be the exact genectic clone of the 21st centery scientist Dr. Elisabet Sobeck.
Throughout most of her life she is often mistreated by others, due to her status as an outcast. This results in her forming strong relationship with Rost, despite being her adoptive father.
Due to being treated as an outcast for most of her life as an outcast, Aloy often has difficulties interacting with others humans outside of Rost. She is often very blunt, and never hesitates to tell people exactly how she feels about them, regardless of the consequences of said honesty. Her outcast status also causes her to disregard Nora traditions, especially if they do not allign with her way of thinking.
However, it is precisely due to this mistreament that she often goes out of her way to helps others in need, especially those who have been mistreated as others. This allows her to easily gain the respect of those that she helps.
After her first encounter and use of a Focus, Aloy has come to view technology as a useful and practical tool, which is in complete opposition most villagers. This, combined with her curious persoanlity, has granted great knowledge of both machines, and the technology of the Old Ones.
Aloy was cast out of the Nora tribe upon birth, and was raised by her adoptive father and fellow outcast, Rost. Six years later, she discovers a piece of augemented reality called a Focus, and develops an affinity for it over time.
In order to learn more about her past, she trains for the Proving: trials that upon completion will allow her to speak to the Matriarchs. Prior to the start of the trials, Aloy befriends a member of the Carja clan named Olin, who posseses a Focus as well. Although Aloy asks about his Focus and tries to befriend him, he is hesistant to say anything about it and refrains from talking to her.
Aloy is able to complete the Proving, however shortly after, cultist end up attacking her and the other participants. The leader of the cultists, Helis almost kills Aloy, but Rost appears and sacrifices himself so that Aloy can escape.
Aloy is granted the title of Seeker by the Matriarchs and is allow to leave the Nora Sacred Lands to pursue the cultists. She ends up tracking down Olin, who reveals that the cultists are faction of the Carja clan named Eclipse, and that his Focus was used to track her location. The cultists seek to kill Aloy due to her resemblence to a prominent scientist of the 21st century, Dr. Elisabet Sobeck.
Aloy is later contacted by Sylens, a researcher who is interested in the history of the Old Ones (humans of the 21st century). He reveals to her that Dr. Stobeck spearheaded Zero Dawn, a project intended to terraform the Earth and and disable the machines that have destroyed Earth's resources and brought humanity to near ruin.
The base containing Zero Dawn contains a series of factories and cloning facilities which are managed by GAIA, an AI tasked to recreating humanity with knowledgenecessary to avoid the mistakes of their ancestors. The base in however is controlled by Eclipse, who in turn are being manipulated by HADES.
HADES is a subset of GAIA who supposed to initiate 'controlled extinction' if the conditions of Zero Dawn are not favorable. However HADES was corrupted and took over GAIA before GAIA could self-destruct to prevent this. GAIA ends up creating a clone of Dr Sobeck, Aloy, in a last-ditch attempt to override HADES. Aloy manages to obtain the override, and despite being captured by captureed by Helis, manages to escape and obtain with it.
Aloy then heads to the Carja city of Meridian, where she proceeds to kill Helis while fighting of hordes of machines, and stab HADES with the override ending the conflict.
Aloy is tasked with finding the source of a plague that destroys everything that it touches. Her travels to an ancient frontier known as the Forbidden West, which contains new types of machines, and other nomadic tribes which have tamed machines to become mounts. The new environments that she comes across vary from arid deserts, tropical beaches, and underwater cities.
Thanks to her training with Rost, Aloy possess exceptional speed and agility. This allows her to traverse various structures and dodge the attacks of machines with ease.
A 'hunter by nature', Aloy is proficient in using a Bows,Spear, and other various weapons to hunt and harvest materials. As a result of her training by Rost, she is easily to on most machines and human in combat.
The current envirionment requires Aloy to make use of the materials that she finds in her surroundings, as well those she harvests from defeated animals and machines. Her extensive knowledge of machines allows her to harvest the right parts in order to create certain items, as well as enhance her own equipment.
The focus that Aloy discovers early in her life gives her the ability to analyze the various machines throughout her travels. By providing information such as the type, weakpoint, and movement pattern of machines, Aloy has a distinct adavantage when hunting machines.
