Watching from afar and working in the shadows is Sylens' main business, feeding his curiosity towards machines and the history of the world while helping Aloy throughout the duration of Horizon Zero Dawn's story.
Sylens is a character who is shrouded in mystery, keeping his past from Aloy despite her repeatedly questioning him about it. Sylens also posseses a Focus and can override machines in a similar fashion to Aloy, although he avoids dangerous situations. He greatly aided Aloy in discovering the truth about the world of machines in Horizon Zero Dawn with the help of his own Focus.
Offering to assist Aloy was not out of the kindness of his heart, however, as Sylens explicitly states that he was helping Aloy out of mutual benefit. That being said, Sylens seemed to open up to Aloy towards the end of Zero Dawn's story, revealing that he founded the Cultist Group known as the Shadow Carja in order to get information out of HADES, later abandoning the Shadow Carja when he knew what Hades was capable of.
In Horizon Forbidden West however, Sylens' quest for knowledge may set him in the role of an antagonist this time around as he seems to be cooperating with HADES again.
Sylens capability as a warrior doesn't come short with Aloy. He can defeat any machine efficiently with his skills as a fighter and with the help of his Focus.
Besides being a great warrior, Sylens is also a genius when it comes to tinkering and learning the ways of machines. He also has a top-notch manipulative skill that lets him get his objective while not having to risk a single thing.
