Horizon Forbidden West adds new features that give Aloy new abilities to use to enhance her combat and exploration abilities. Read on to learn about the game's new features like the Pullcaster, Shieldwing, Swimming, Workbench, and more!

New Enemies
Horizon Forbidden West introduces new enemies that provide Aloy with challenges to overcome.
Clawstrider
The fast and agile Clawstrider is a formidable machine that becomes even more dangerous when they outnumber you. While taking them down is always an option, you can also choose to tame and control them so long as they haven't spotted you, allowing you to travel and explore much faster.
Tremortusk
The massive Tremortusk is a machine that can stomp you down in melee combat, and packs some serious firepower for ranged combat. Certain human enemies also use this machine, riding on top while using weapons as support fire for the Tremortusk.
Slitherfang
This snake-like machine is another new challenge for Aloy, since it can crawl fast and climb much faster than other machines in the wild.
Sunwing
There have been aerial machines in the past, but the new Sunwing is a new enemy that will give Aloy a tough time during a fight.
Tideripper
This new underwater machine makes exploring the waters of the Forbidden West even more dangerous, using its speed to cut you down before you reach land.
New Human Enemies
Humans enemies have improved their skills and weaponry and can now mount machines, making them deadlier than ever. Use Aloy's new abilities, combined with her agility and strength to overcome them.
New Weapons and Abilities
The introduction of new enemies also means that Aloy has a new set of weapons that she can use to even the odds during a fight.
Valor Surge Spear
The spear is your trusty melee weapon that deals great damage against both machines and humans. With the new Valor Surge feature, you can add new buffs and attacks that allow you to take down stronger machines with ease.
Spike Thrower
The Spike Thrower is a new weapon that gives Aloy more firepower against large machines. Capable of launching javelins from range, the Spike Thrower can take out huge chunks of machine armor, and hit their weakpoints hard and fast.
New Ammo Types
Aloy's weapons can use different kinds of ammunition, and exploring the Forbidden West requires new types of ammo that can deal with specific types of machines. This includes the Sticky ammo that can slow down enemies, or new grenade types for the Blast Sling.
More Dropped Weapons
The introduction of new machines also mean that there are more dropped weapons to use. This allows you to use a machine's own weapons against them, and deal devastating damage
New Exploration Mechanics
Free Climbing
Climbing across various locations has been made much easier than before with Free Climbing. This enables Aloy to climb on all types of structures much faster, and gives her ways to find new locations and vantage points.
Swimming
The waters of the Forbidden West are vast and filled with places to explore. While swimming can be performed in Horizon Zero Dawn, it has been expanded further in Forbidden West.She can now dive into the water much deeper, and last for a longer period of time underwater.
More Gadgets and Tools
Gadgets and tools have also been expanded, providing Aloy with extra tools that make exploring the Forbidden West much easier.
Diving Mask
The new Diving Mask allows Aloy to swim underwater for longer period of time, allowing you to find new places and enemies lurking in the water.
Pullcaster
The Pullcaster is a gadget that works like a grappling hook, allowing you to climb greater heights and reach more places faster. This is a very handy tool to have, giving you more mobility than ever before.
Shieldwing
The Shieldwing is a handy device that allows you to glide down slowly when dropping from height. This prevents you from taking fall damage, and make exploring huge structures easier.
Workbench
Aloy can also upgrade her weapons even further with the addition of the workbench. This allows you to craft new ammo types and create new modifications that makes your weapons stronger than before.
