Sneak Up and Press the Override Button

Overriding machines is also possible in Horizon Forbidden West. You can override them to make them your ally and help you out with attacking enemies or traveling through the vast continent.

Step 1 Sneak close to a machine. Crouch in bushes or come from behind to get closer to them.
Step 2 Hold the Override Button. Wait for the bar to be filled to override the machine.
Step 3 You will have control over the machine after overriding them.

How to Unlock Machines to Override

Clear Cauldron and Craft the Overrides

Similar to Horizon Zero Dawn, you need to finish Cauldrons to unlock the necessary override function to control machines. However, in Horizon Forbidden West, simply clearing the corresponding Cauldron is not enough. Once the Cauldron is clear, you will need to upgrade your spear's overrides at the Fabrication Terminal in the Base (near where you talk with Gaia).
