To unlock this side quest, you need to complete the Death's Door main quest.
Begin the side quest by talking to Mian.

| 1 |  Find the Carja HuntressProceed to the marked location to find the Carja Huntress. A cutscene will trigger when you arrive. |
| 2 |  Kill the MachinesKill the surrounding machines in the area in order to talk to Talanah. |
| 3 |  Follow Talanah to the Burning BloomsFollow Talanah to reach your next obejctive. Examine the footprints to gain a new trail. |
| 4 |  Talk to the UtaruFollow the trail until you meet an Utaru named Lel. He'll guide you to the next objective |
| 5 |  Go to the Western RidgeProceed to the new location called The Rot. There's a Shellsnapper on the way that you need to kill. |
| 6 |  Investigate the CaveAfter killing the Shellsnapper, investigate the cave using your Focus to find a corpse hidden under the rubble to complete the side quest. |

The Spinebreak door can be opened by acquiring a code from a Datapoint entitled The Other Side, which can be acquired in the Breaking Even side quest. The code is 2054, and inside is a vault filled with ancient items that can sell for Metal Shards.
Breaking Even Side Quest Guide
The Shellsnapper is a huge machine that has a very strong shield on top of its body. Use fire arrows to weaken it, and use the nearby explosive barrels to deal extra damage.
