The Arena is a side area where players race to defeat machines within the time limit to gain rewards in Horizon Forbidden West (HFW). Learn where the Arena is and how to unlock it, all rewards and Legendary Weapons, Outfits, and Coils available, and all challenges found there.
List of Contents
There is only one Arena location in the game, located in The Maw of the Arena behind the Memorial Grove. This location is first encountered in the story during The Kulrut Main Quest.
Steps to Unlock the Arena |
---|
1. Complete The Kulrut Main Quest |
2. Talk to Kalla to receive the special Quest, Opening the Arena. |
3. Complete Opening the Arena to unlock Arena Challenges. |
This is a special side quest which is classified in The Arena section on the Quests menu, although it is not an Arena Challenge. It must be completed to start the Arena Challenges.
The Quest is not complicated, and simply requires the player to kill a Rollerback and gather a few machine parts.
The Arena is home to a whopping three Legendary Weapons, three Legendary Outfits, and four Legendary Coils. If you're looking for Legendary items, the Arena is far and away the most attractive source of rare Weapons and Armor of any of the game's side content.
Legendary Weapons | ・Death-Seeker's Shadow (Hunter Bow) ・Forgefall (Sharpshot Bow) ・The Blast Forge (Boltblaster) |
---|---|
Legendary Outfits | ・Nora Thunder Warrior (Hunter) ・Tenakth Vanquisher (Survivor) ・Carja Stalker Elite (Trapper) |
Legendary Coils | ・Instant Brittle Chance +4% ・Instant Burning Chance +4% ・Instant Explosion Chance +2% ・Instant Plasma Blast Chance +4% |
All rewards at the Arena are purchased via Arena Medals, currency which is earned by completing Arena Challenges within the time limit.
Even if you don't finish a Challenge within the time limit, completing one will unlock the next challenge, so it's possible to still purchase some of the rewards even if you don't hit the time limit on every single Challenge.
Playing the Challenges on any Difficulty setting is sufficient for getting all the rewards available in the Arena. Some of the battles are very tricky, so if you're aiming for 100%, consider running Story or Easy Difficulty for some of the later fights.
However, you can try to aim for the best time on each difficulty if you're being brave about it.

Similar to the Hunting Grounds, The Arena is a series of Time Trial Challenges, but instead of requiring specific tasks within the time limit, The Arena Challenges simply ask the player to take down all the Monsters with whatever means necessary.
Some of the Challenges allow the player free use of any of their equipment, while the final Challenge of each Rank will give a specific set of equipment to the player which they must use for that fight.
After purchasing all the Rewards from the Arena available for purchase with Arena Medals, Aloy will still have 33 Arena Medals available. It's currently unknown if anything can be bought with these Medals in another location, but it's likely that these are just a buffer for players to allow them to earn all the Rewards even if there is a particular Challenge they cannot beat.
Please leave a comment if you have found a use for the extra 33 Arena Medals!
