A former soldier of Carja, Nil lives for war, to point of developing a rather sadistic personality. To satisfy his bloodlust without retribution, he kills bandits for fun. He justifies this by saying that bandits are disposable, and live dirty lives. This way of thinking has been noted by Aloy as 'doing the right thing for the wrong reasons'.
His love for violence often causes him to disregard his own life, as shown when he challenges Aloy to a duel, despite his knowing that he is more than likely to lose.
Nil was a Carja soldier during the reign of the Sun-King Jiram. Jiram's son Avad became attempted to get rid of anyone loyal to previous king and his violent reign upon his ascension to the throne. This resulted in Nil serving time in prison as a result of his past war crimes.
Upon his release Nil began to hunt bandits in order satisfy his love for battle. Throughout his travels he occasionally meets up with Aloy, often combining their strength to raid bandit camps. Eventually there are no more camps available to raid, which causes Nil to challenge ALoy to a duel.
If Aloy accepts, then Nil ends up dying as a result of the duel. If Aloy declines however, Nil will take part in battle during The Looming Shadow, fighting against the corrupted machines.
Nil makes an appearance in the Gauntlet Runs, making it canon that Nil survived the events of Horizon Zero Dawn. To recap, in Zero Dawn Aloy had the choice to duel Nil to the death or spare him.
Nil's iconic Face Paint, the Carja Watcher Face Paint, makes a return as well. To learn more about how to customize Face Paints, check out the guide below.
