The lead developer of Horizon Forbidden West has shared that the game will have roughly the same game length as its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, so it is expected to take an average of around 20 hours to complete the main story, similar to the previous game.
Though the main storyline of the game will remain roughly the same length as it predecessor, the overall scope of the game is significantly larger.
The lead developer of the game has also shared that it could take 100+ of hours to completely experience everything that the game has to offer, which is a far stretch from the previous 60-hour completionist runs of the previous game.
The majority of players will not be rushing through the main story of the game, nor will they be obtaining each collectible. For regular players looking for casual playthroughs of the game with a good amount of side quests and exploration, expect around 50 to 60 hours of leisure gameplay.
There could be a variety of reasons why the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn will take much longer to complete. One of the reasons is simply a larger world size than the previous game. The map is confirmed to at least be slightly larger this time around, which could explain the longer game length.
Since the main story of the game will likely remain at the same length, additional side quests and collectibles have likely been added to pad the average playthrough. Though the previous game did not have any shortage on side quests and missions, additional content is still always welcome.
