How Growth Rates Work

Class Influences Growth Rates

Character growth rates are fixed, and there is no known way of changing them ingame. However, their class can influence their growth rates. For example, Boucheron has a Mag growth of 0% and Axe Fighter also has a Mag growth of 0%, meaning he will never gain a point of Mag as he levels up in this class. However, if he is reclassed into a Mage, his 0% Mag growth will be added to the class growth rate of 25%, finally giving him a 25% chance to gain a point of Mag per level up.

Where to Get Second Seals

Growth Types Affect Stat Boosts

When you finish the game at least once, you'll be given the option to pick how the growth rates are used to determine stat boosts for a new game. There are two options: Random and Fixed, the latter of which is the default for Maddening.

Random, which seems to be the default for Normal and Hard difficulties, means that the growth rates are the chance a stat increases. Even with a high growth rate, the randomness means there's a possibility a stat won't increase even after several level-ups.

Fixed uses growth rates as points toward a stat increase, so it tends toward the average stats. Given the Mage Boucheron example above, after gaining 4 levels with a 25% total Mag growth rate, he may get anywhere between 0 to 4 Mag with Random, but should get 1 Mag with Fixed.

Yeah, there's a cap, if the stat number is in green, that means it is at current max at will no longer increase, but by changing class, you can change the cap (advanced classes have higher caps)

Is there a maximum amount of stats you can get from level up? I have a high priest Anna that leveled up 10 times without getting a single stat point. From the info I have she should have a stat growth of 75 in both MAG and LCK, which means the probability that neither would get a boost after 10 levels is 1 out of 2 million. (1/((4^10)*2))
