Check Map for Enemy Unit Type

Check Enemy Unit Types

Before starting a mission, always check the map for the enemy types and the boss' weapon types. This is important information that will make you choose which units need to go up against the strongest enemies in the map.

It will also decide how many types of units you will need. If you see a lot of flying enemies, arches are required. If you see some armored enemies, bring more mages.

Have a Balanced Party

Early on in the game, you will recruit a healthy mix of Frontline and Backline units so team composition is not so much of a problem. Just make sure to bring units that cover each weapon type.

However, there are only a few mage units until Ivy joins you in Chapter 11. Until then, Celine and Citrinne should suffice as mages.

Use Your Favorite Characters

Fun should be your priority when forming a party, especially on Normal difficulty. Emblems and refining can make any unit strong, so experiment with builds!

▶︎ All Characters and Playable Units

Mind the Support Levels

Units who are recruited earlier will naturally have higher Support Levels than those who join later. Support Levels provide your units an extra edge in combat so consider a team composition with this in mind.

No. of Deployable Units Increase Later

The number of deployable units until mid-game is 10, but it increases to 12 as you approach the later parts of the game. Units who join you later will have low Support Levels but have good stats and skills to use them immediately.

Swap Out Weaker Units

Some units have low stat growths and base stats, which will become an issue as enemies become stronger. You can replace these early units with those you recruited later in the story.

Before doing Chapters, you could also do skirmishes to farm EXP, Bond Levls, and gold for your units.

Mix of Specialized Units

By this point, some of your units will focus on certain builds. The best party usually has some Backup units for Chain Attacks, Staff users for healing and repositioning, and Fliers to quickly reach certain side objectives or take space.

Recommended Units From DLC

Frontline NilNil
NelNel
MadelineMadeline
Mage ZelestiaZelestia
Support GregoryGregory

If you completed the DLC, you will recruit the units you used in those missions. If you can se these units in your party as such, replacing the older units you had.

Nil and Nel are like Alear in that they have Dragon typing. Madeline and Gregory have base stats and stat growths that are high for their current classes.

Zelestia is an interesting unit because she has flying movement with Sword and Tome proficiency. She's like a more offensive Ivy.

A lot of the unit recommendations here don't make sense. You should also specify difficulty this recommendation is for, because I don't think it's Hard or Maddening.
