The Ancient Well is a new feature added to the Somniel in Fire Emblem Engage version 1.3.0 as part of a Free Content Update. Read on for a guide on what items you can get from the Ancient Well, how to unlock the Ancient Well, and whether it is worth trading in the items you have.

The Ancient Well introduces a set of food-based Joke Weapons into Fire Emblem. Each of these weapons resemble a snack item of some sort ranging from candies to cakes and other confectionaries. Aside from their use as a weapon, they can be used as a recovery item making for an interesting gimmick.
Each of these joke weapons can be obtained at any star tier exchange with higher chances at higher star tiers.
Novice Books and Adept Books can be obtained from the Ancient Well at any star-level. This makes it a decent way to easily obtain SP Books for cheap. You'll also have better rates as you put more valuable items in the well, with chances to get Expert Books at 3 stars or higher.
SP Farming Guide: How to Get Skill Points
Since there's only a limited amount of A-tier weapons you can purchase from the armory, the Ancient Well offers another way you can get your hands on A-Tier weapons, such as those from the Brave set.
It will require a bit of luck, trial, and error, though as these only have a chance of dropping if you make 5-Star Tier exchanges.
For players with the Expansion Pass DLC, players can return to the Ancient Well to trigger a cutscene with Vander and unlock the Fell Xenologue storyline.
How to Unlock the Fell Xenologue
The Ancient Well comes as a free content update for Fire Emblem Engage. You do not have to purchase the Expansion Pass to unlock recreation.
From the Switch Home Screen, hover over Fire Emblem Engage, enter the Options menu by pressing +. From there navigate to Software Update and download the latest version. Once the version on the upper left screen says 1.3.0 or higher, you'll unlock the Ancient Well at the Somniel.
Once you boot up the game, head to the Somniel and speak with the Blacksmith. He'll ask for your help to retrieve an item he dropped by the well.

Represailles | Revanche |
Interacting with the well will grant you two weapons, neither of which are what he's looking for. This lets you learn that dropping items in the well will let you receive different weapons in return.
Tier | Value of Items Put In |
---|---|
1-Star | 999G or lower. |
2-Star | 1,000G - 4,999G |
3-Star | 5,000G - 9,999G |
4-Star | 10,000G - 19,999G |
5-Star | 20,000G or higher. |
Found in the Training Yard, The Ancient Well allows players to trade in up to five of their items for a chance to get a random assortment of items of equal or better rarity. Interact with the well to select items from your Convoy that you'd like to drop in.
The Upgrade Chance improves in quality depending on the Gold Value of the items you've put in. You'll have to complete a battle in the World Map before you can claim the rewards you've exchanged your items for.

► Somniel Minigames and Things to Do
1* is good for starting of by throwing in a used vulnerary/antitoxin/torch 2* is best good money from selling the extra weapons and staves 3* is best for SP as you can maintain reinvestment of items to throw back into the well to reach 3* level without needing to dump in any extra items in on average. It also gives you a chance to get the Expert Book for huge SP. Only do 4* and 5* if you want to keep the items like the legendary Nodus staff or out of stock staves.

4* have Master Seal too Result are determined as soon as you put in the item. Where you battle next does not matter. RNG is time based, unlike in-battle hitrate or bond rings. Anecdotally, I have WAY better luck right after a hard reset. Quickly finish any map to see result, ie warp/rewarp to kill boss.
