Recreation comes as a free content update for Fire Emblem Engage. You do not have to purchase the Expansion Pass to unlock recreation.
From the Switch Home Screen, hover over Fire Emblem Engage, enter the Options menu by pressing +. From there navigate to Software Update and download the latest version. Once the version on the upper left screen says 1.2.0 or higher, you'll unlock Recreation activities at the Somniel.
By visiting the Stable, Pool, or Orchard, you can select the two allies that you want to have an improved support. Note that the support between your selected allies will improve, not your support with them.
If you're unsure about who to pair up, you can press L to get a recommended pairing! Recreation is a good way to unlock support conversations and bonuses between units! This is especially useful between units that you rarely use, or rarely are together on the battlefield.

You can select two allies on the Somniel to spend some time relaxing at various locations. Similar to having a meal with your allies, support points may increase between allies that spend time together.
Much like most other activities at the Somniel, you can only do recreational activities a limited amount of times between battles. Players will be able to do recreation up to three times between battles: once at the pool, the orchard, and the stable. To refresh the actions, participate in a skirmish then return to the Somniel.
