Dodge vs Avoid Explained

Fire Emblem Engage - Dodge vs Avoid

Dodge and Avoid are two types of evasion in Fire Emblem Engage (FE Engage). Learn more about the differences between Dodge and Avoid and how to increase them.

Dodge and Avoid Differences

Dodge (Ddg) Avoid (Avo)
Description Critical hit evasion rate Attack evasion rate
Basic Calculation Luck Spd x 2 + Luck / 2
Counter Stat Crit Hit
Affected by Terrain No Yes

Simply put, Dodge determines the chance of preventing critical hits against your unit while Avoid determines the chance of evading any hit. These stats are subtracted from their counter stats to get the Hit and Crit rates in the battle forecast.

These combat stats are mostly influenced by one basic stat. Dodge relies almost entirely on Luck, and Avoid mostly comes from Speed, but is partially affected by Luck too. This is why fast units can evade attacks more often but remain vulnerable against critical hits.

How to Increase Dodge and Avoid

Use Terrain to Raise Avoid

Fire Emblem Engage - Terrain Raises Avoid

One large distinction between Dodge and Avoid is that only Avoid can be increased by Terrain. Do note that Flying units can't take advantage of them and Covert units gain double the Avoid bonus.

Equip Certain Weapons

Fire Emblem Engage - Weapon Engraving

Slim weapons are light and easy to handle, improving Dodge to prevent crits. Lighter weapons are also less likely to cause a Speed penalty, keeping your Avoid at its best. Weapons can also be engraved to improve Dodge, Avoid, or both.

Raise Luck or Speed

Fire Emblem Engage - Speed Increases Boosts Avoid

Dodge and Avoid are mainly calculated using Luck and Speed, respectively. To increase your evasiveness, you simply need to increase the stat they're based on. This can be through Emblems, Bond Rings, skills, or stat-boosting items.

Build Up Supports

Fire Emblem Engage - Supports Increase Avoid

Both Dodge and Avoid can be increased by fighting beside support partners. The amount increased depends on their support level.
