Name, Gender, and Birthday of Protagonist

Fire Emblem Engage Protagonist

The name and gender of the protagonist cannot be changed after they are entered/confirmed at the beginning of the game. A new save file must be created if you wish to make these changes.

Game Mode

Fire Emblem Engage Modes

You choose between the Classic and Casual game modes at the start of the game and you're unable to switch modes in the middle of a playthrough. In Classic Mode, permadeath is enabled, which means that once your unit dies in battle, that unit can't be used anymore for the rest of your save file. In Casual Mode, permadeath is disabled.

Unlike Game Mode, Difficulty can be changed in the middle of a playthrough at Your Room in the Somniel. However, you can only decrease the difficulty and not increase it.

Unit Deaths (Classic Only)

Casual Mode Fallen units rise again after the battle ends.
Classic Mode Fallen units are lost forever.
Every decision counts!

When your unit dies during battle in Classic Mode, it can be considered a point of no return as you're unable to use them anymore going forward. However, you can also use the rewind mechanic (if you're still fighting the battle the unit died in) or do a hard reset (if you saved prior to the battle).

Missable Characters

Missable Unit Recruitment Method
Jean Jean Available in: Paralogue: Budding Talent
・Just needs to survive to be a playable character
・Talk to Jean to recruit him within the battle itself
Anna Anna Available in: Paralogue: Mysterious Merchant
・Talk to Anna to recruit her within the battle itself.
・If you don't talk to her during the battle, she'll still ask to join your ranks after the battle.
Lindon Lindon Available in: Chapter 18
・Lindon is initially hostile
・It's possible to kill him instead of recruiting him
Saphir Saphir Chapter 19

While simply progressing through the story will get most characters to join your ranks as playable units, there are some characters that can only be recruited by speaking to them or by making sure they don't fall in battle. Above are the characters and side quests you may miss out on.

▶︎ Recruitment Guide: How to Recruit Units

Note the speech bubble above recruitable unit

If you see a speech bubble icon above a unit, move to a tile adjacent to the unit in order to speak to them. Keep a look out for these speech bubbles in order not to miss out on (or worse, eliminate) potential units.

Some units can only be recruited when talked to by a specific character. For example, Jade can only be recruited when spoken to by either Alear or Diamant.

Silver Card

Fire Emblem Engage Silver Card

The Silver Card is one of the items included on the Expansion Pass DLC. However, it's not immediately given to you like the other DLC items. You have to pick it up at the above location during the battle at the Dragon Temple map of the Divine Paralogue.

Be careful not to miss it, because if you don't pick it up during the battle, you'll have to have to keep rerolling skirmishes until a skirmsh appears in the Dragon Temple map (be assured that this is a tedious method).

Emblems Usage

In Chapter 11, you will lose all your Emblems except for Lucina and Lyn. This means you won't be able to check or configure Emblem stats such as Bond Level, Skill Inheritance, Engraving, and the like (other than Lucina's and Lyn's).

The Pact Ring

Fire Emblem Engage Pact Ring

After competing Paralogue: The Connector at the Garden of Memories, you unlock the Pact Ring. The Pact Ring is located inside the Memento Drawer in Your Room at the Somniel.

You give the Pact Ring to only one A-Rank Support ally, and doing so will give you a paired ending unique to the character you give it to. Additionally, they also get buffed stats when fighting adjacent to Alear through the Boon of Elyos skill. You can only give it to an ally once, so put some thought into who you'll give it to.

What to Do Before Encountering Missables

Save to Allow Reset

Fire Emblem Engage Point of No Return

Making a habit of saving will continuously give you a recent checkpoint to go back to, should you miss out on an item or character or want to make a change before a point of no return. Even as something as simple as rerolling a stat on level up can be set up by making a save point before every battle.
