How to Increase Weapon Proficiency

Bond with Emblems for Proficiencies

Weapon proficiencies can be gained by bonding with certain Emblems. You get increased weapon proficiency by increasing the Bond Level to acquire proficiencies from Emblems' Bond Effects. As seen above, the unit can acquire Axe Proficiency from reaching Bond Level 2 with Leif.

Increase weapon level by changing classes

Additionally, the only way to increase weapon level is to change classes. For example, Etie has no Sword proficiency by default. If you want her to use the Caladbolg, an S-rank Sword, she must first gain Sword proficiency by bonding with an Emblem like Lucina and then reclass to a Swordmaster, which can use S-ranked Swords.

What is Weapon Proficiency?

Determines Equippable Weapons

Weapon proficiency determines the characters' ability to use certain weapon types and change classes. Each class has its own proficiencies that give specific weapon levels. These levels range from D to S and limit what weapons your units can use.

How to Check Weapon Proficiency

View from the Change Class Screen

Players can check the Weapon Proficiencies of their units via the Change Class screen.

This can be accessed by opening the Somniel Menu, selecting Inventory, chosing your desired unit, then selecting Change Class.

From there, you will be able to see the proficiencies of your unit on the lower left corner of the screen.

Weapon Proficiency Icons and Meaning

Color Proficiency Type Effects
Grey Proficiency.pngGrey No Proficiency Cannot change into class that uses these
White Proficiency.pngWhite Standard Proficiency Gained from Emblems, can Class Change
Blue Proficiency.pngBlue Innate Proficiency Bonus level for that weapon

There are three icons for proficiencies; grey, white, and blue. Grey means that the unit has no proficiency in this weapon type, meaning they cannot change into classes that use these until they gain it. White is the standard proficiency and can be gained from Emblems. Blue is the character's innate proficiency, granting them a bonus level for that weapon.

Don't hesitate on using your bond fragments to level up quickly the bond level of emblems on your characters so they can easily adapt their proefficiency on other classes. Raise up to Lvl 20 if neccesary with one specific emblem.
