Support builds between units beside the attacker.
Units who battle while standing adjacent to an ally will increase the Support between those two characters. This applies to attacking in Player Phase only, so try to have your units standing close to each other as much as possible when you're building Supports.
Pro Tip: Support gains are gained when attacking only, so try to have your units around in a big square formation and use ranged weapons to keep formation and efficiently build support between all of your participating characters. |
Alternatively, allies that perform actions like healing on another ally also receive an increase in Support. Assist moves like Reposition from Ike and activating Corrin's Quality Time when healing allies also improve Support.

Populating the Somniel are the allies you've met along your journeys. Always take the opportunity to speak and interact with them in order to strengthen their Support and the stats of your army.

Giving gifts to your companions increases the Support between Alear and the receiving character. Each character has a favored gift that will boost your Support even more if you give it to them. To know what type of gift a character prefers, look at the description of the gift.
▶︎ Best Gifts to Give Each Character
Allies that can Support one another can build their Support when fighting each other during Standard Training at the Arena. The chosen opponent will be random though, so this isn't the most reliable way to gain Supports between characters.

At Cafe Terrace, you can place an order with any of the characters in the rotation for cooking duty and share the prepared meal with your allies. Depending on how much your allies liked the meal, you will earn a certain amount of increase in Support.

Recreational Activies allow you to increase support between allies! This is especially useful if you want to unlock support conversations between characters that don't often battle together!

"According to my fortune-telling, yes. The chosen legendary savior should be able to do it."
Supports are given a ranking from C to A, with higher rankings providing bigger stat bumps. By reaching certain Support milestones between characters, you unlock what is known as Support Conversations. These conversations further increase your Support ranking cap, and unlock better Support bonuses.
There are no explicity S-Rank Support levels in Fire Emblem Engage. S-Supports were the highest ranking Support Level you could reach in previous Fire Emblem games. It's also how you could pursue romantic relationships with your allies. Without S Rank Support, romance features don't appear in Fire Emblem Engage as well.
The Pact Ring is found in the Memento Drawer in Alear's room after competing the Paralogue: The Connector. To give the Pact Ring to an ally, you first need to have an ally with A Rank Support.
You may choose only 1 A Rank character to receive the Pact Ring. It will give that A Rank ally and Alear a greater boost to stats than the A Rank Support. Additionally, the ally will be denoted with a special ring icon, above the A Rank.

A difference in stats between a unit with and without a support bonus
Support is a visual and statistical measure of the closeness between two units. Support levels provide a bonus to both their stats when they stand next to each other during battles.
Support Levels is a different (but similar) mechanic to Bond Levels, a new feature of Fire Emblem Engage. In FE Engage, you have Emblem Characters that you can deepen your relationships with in order to gain various stat buffs and battle bonuses. However, these characters are not real people in the physical world.
This deepening of relationships happens when you increase your Bond Level, which can be done via Emblem Training at the Arena, polishing Emblem Rings, and Bond Conversations.
