Temple Stories Walkthrough
Temple Stories is a main quest that is part of the Wise target questline on the Shinbakufu board in Assassin's Creed Shadows (AC Shadows). See where to retrieve the sacred scroll, as well as the Temple Stories walkthrough and quest rewards here!
Retrieve the Sacred Scroll Location
West of the Todaiji Temple
Travel west of the Todaiji Temple, and you will find the hostile camp with the sacred scroll. The camp is slightly east of the Megalithic Vault.
Three hostile soldiers are stationed in the camp, and retrieving the sacred scroll by the camp wagon will be much easier once they’re eliminated.

Speak to Joken Hokkyo in Todaiji Temple
In Todaiji Temple in the Yamato Region, speak to the monk Joken Hokkyo. Follow him, and after a short walk and conversation he will leave to "attend to his duties" while you stay at the temple.
Follow Kojiro and Inspect the Collection Room
As Joken Hokkyo leaves, Kojiro signals you to follow him to the temple's collection room to inspect three items:
- An Open Scroll on a Table
- The Tea Set
- The Katana Stand
After examining the three items, Joken Hokkyo returns and speaks to you, and you resume your walk with him.
Repel the Samurai Ambush
As you exit the temple on your walk with him, a trio of samurai ambushes you. The other monks will help fight, and after defeating the samurai, speak to Joken Hokkyo who is weeping on the ground. You then must find the sacred scroll that was stolen by thieves.
Retrieve the Sacred Scroll
Travel west of the Todaiji Temple to find a camp where the sacred scroll thieves are. Three hostile thieves surround the scroll in the center of the camp, and you can retrieve the scroll sneakily or with force.
Return the Scroll to Tsutsui Junkei
With the scroll in hand, head south of the encampment towards Koriyama Castle. You don't need to enter the hostile castle area, as Tsutsui Junkei and Joken Hokkyo can both be found just outside, on the northeast side of the castle outskirts. Speak with them and return the scroll to complete the quest.
Temple Stories Rewards
1000 XP
Completing the quest after returning the sacred scroll nets you 1000 XP.
