While traveling on horseback or foot, you can freely toggle Pathfinder Mode when you have a quest tracked or a pin on the map. It aids navigation by displaying a white line on the ground to guide your way forward to the place or quest you have pinned, or tracked.
Pathfinder Mode can sometimes assist when climbing pathed mountainous terrain, depending on the landscape. You may find it helpful to keep it on while navigating certain elevated areas.
If you're far from any roads, like deep in a forest, the white line from Pathfinder Mode won't appear. It will become visible again once you return to a road or path.

You can enable Auto-Walk on both controller and keyboard, letting your character move forward without holding W or pushing the joystick up. While your character moves forward for you, you still have to steer left and right.
